This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2003 S-Type, Jaguar has redesigned the interior, upgraded its hardware and added models to the range. The model lineup includes the S-Type 3.0 SE and 3.0 Sport, 4.2 V8 and the supercharged R. The S-Type R is the most powerful Jaguar sedan ever created, making about 400 horsepower and moving from rest to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. A new five-speed manual transmission is attached to the 3.0-liter V6 this year, while a new six-speed automatic transmission puts V8 power to the rear wheels. The suspension is also new in front and heavily revised in the rear. New standard safety features include stability control, panic assist brakes, anti-whiplash front seats, dual-stage front airbags, side curtain airbags for front and rear occupants and power adjustable pedals with a memory feature. Jaguar has also stiffened the body structure, made slight revisions to the exterior styling and added xenon headlights as an option (standard on the R). Audiophiles can opt for the 320-watt Alpine sound system, and technology buffs will appreciate the new touchscreen telematics system with improved voice recognition.

Pros:
  • Powerful R sport sedan, beautiful styling, full load of standard safety equipment.
Cons:
  • A few cheap interior bits, high price, fussy J-gate shifter.

  • New Jag Impressive - 2003 Jaguar S-Type

Bought a Jag S 4.2 liter as a company car and its an impressive ride. Extremely quick and the transmission is seamless. Bought the car for its great looks, but Im starting to be more impressed by the quiet performance. My personal car is a Porsche Boxster, so now I have two top flight vehicles, each with their own styles. Dont think the Jag could beat the Porsche, but the Jag is no slouch!

Love look of car, always a head turner. Been in shop avg of 1x per month, unacceptable. Tranny slips, especially in turns and when slowing. Would never own unless I had a warranty AND the free rental. 3 recalls since I have owned. Had it not been a great deal on a demo car, I would not have pulled the trigger to purchase. Can sell today for what I paid for it. Will probably sell in a year with warranty left. Dont buy the ivory interior if you have kids. It shows everything and is not the easiest to clean. I have a gold color that hides a lot of dirt, but the brakes dust drives me crazy. To keep wheels looking nice, have to clean EVERY week even though the car is not dirty.

Previous satisfied owner of 2000 S Type 4.0 Liter V8. Was impressed with 2003 S Type 4.2 Liter V8 new suspension, 6 speed transmission, and completely redesigned interior(much better). Vehicle has even better power, drive, performance, and is much quieter than first model (which I loved). They really have thought about where things could be improved and have surprised me in topping the original. I plan to keep this car for many years.

  • Style lacking quality - 2003 Jaguar S-Type

This car has superior style and performance. The flashy style attracts a lot of attention. The service is lacking the same quality the car lacks. They seem to prefer to argue that the car is not defective than to actually take the time to fix it. I drove their X-type loaner as much as I drove my car (not really, but it seems excessive). 12 repairs in 2 years. I traded it with 20K left on the warranty and an air conditioner problem they didnt fix during the first service. Jaguar style with Ford quality and service.

Take the beauty and grace of the timeless classic Jaguars, add the safety and technology features of the 21st Century, mix it with supercharged engine generating 390HP and 399lb-ft of torque, and you end up with a vehicle that stands out among a herd of me- too "sport-luxury" boxes. The Jaguar S- Type-R is destined for greatness, let it take you with her.

  • S-Type R is incredible...Wow - 2003 Jaguar S-Type

Wow, what a car. Im so glad I did not buy the M5. Power, style and that beautiful retro Jag look. Seating for 5, the smooth transmission (that is also in the 745iL) and much more power than the 911. It is still a very unique car because the R just came out in 03. I hear that the model goes unchanged into 04, which says wonders for the engineering of the new R.

  • The S-Type is solid and stylish! - 2003 Jaguar S-Type

The S-type Jag, 4.0 V-8 sports model is one hot machine. It doesnt lean into sharp curves, but hugs the road like a magnet on a refrigerator. This car is solid, with no squeeks or creaks. Dont confuse it with your fathers Ford. Dont confuse these beauties with Jags from the past that had electrical and other problems. Ford has focused on quality - and they have delivered.

  • Dont mess with gorgeous - 2003 Jaguar S-Type

Outstanding bargain as a 2003 thanks to Jags old reputation for unreliability. Best performance sedan under 60K. Has been very reliable so far. Nothing more than scheduled maintenance. Impressive performance, especially if you factor in the automatic and all the Jaguar nanny electronics (delimiter, Traction, etc). Gorgeous exterior that gets looks everywhere. Its acceleration sneaks up on other performance cars, especially M3s and M5s. Interior fit and finish is excellent and sumptuous. Brakes are grabby (good) and stop the car with authority. The mesh grill and fat 275 tires make the car. Supercharger whine is music over 3500rpm. Butt-dyno feels like a 4.8-4.9s car, not 5-5.2.

  • My Ride Jaguar S Type - 2003 Jaguar S-Type

Having done my due diligence test driving a used BMW and Benz - both fine my wife loves hers - I selected Jag 03 S Type V6 with 18K miles + factory warranty. No paintwork, no smoker, fully loaded, all keys and manuals. Out the door from used dealer at around $20K maybe the best used car I ever bought. Love the ZF 5Spd automatic - snickity snick - theres a learning curve to get the RPMs up there where its fun to drive. Mine is dark grey metallic, light grey fine leather interior. Looks right at home at the Country Club and in a pinch Ive even lowered the back seats and hauled 8 ft lumber! Great car, buy it right, find one with some warranty and enjoy!
