This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2003 S-Type, Jaguar has redesigned the interior, upgraded its hardware and added models to the range. The model lineup includes the S-Type 3.0 SE and 3.0 Sport, 4.2 V8 and the supercharged R. The S-Type R is the most powerful Jaguar sedan ever created, making about 400 horsepower and moving from rest to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. A new five-speed manual transmission is attached to the 3.0-liter V6 this year, while a new six-speed automatic transmission puts V8 power to the rear wheels. The suspension is also new in front and heavily revised in the rear. New standard safety features include stability control, panic assist brakes, anti-whiplash front seats, dual-stage front airbags, side curtain airbags for front and rear occupants and power adjustable pedals with a memory feature. Jaguar has also stiffened the body structure, made slight revisions to the exterior styling and added xenon headlights as an option (standard on the R). Audiophiles can opt for the 320-watt Alpine sound system, and technology buffs will appreciate the new touchscreen telematics system with improved voice recognition.

Pros:
  • Powerful R sport sedan, beautiful styling, full load of standard safety equipment.
Cons:
  • A few cheap interior bits, high price, fussy J-gate shifter.

  • Whats not to love! - 2003 Jaguar S-Type

This car is an absolute pleasure. Its everything I hoped it would be. I have no complaints. Friends told me not to buy it, but its performance has proved them wrong, not to mention its classy appearance. Buy one, you wont be sorry!

I purchased a 2003 S-Type with the 5- speed manual transmission. Great performance, smooth shifting, very nice exhaust note on acceleration. Absolutely no problems to report. The car is beautifully styled inside and out, fit and finish is top-notch. I average right at 20 mpg around town, and took a 4 hour highway trip recently and the computer indicated 31.5 mpg. My third Jag and the best yet.

  • Wow....Former Lexus Driver is wowed by - 2003 Jaguar S-Type

I owned five Lexus Cars before jumping to a Jaguar S Type R earlier this year. The folks at Lexus seemed to have no interest in retaining a repeat customer, (my wife and I both had them, LS 400 and RX 300). I am so happy I made the switch. The staff at the dealership is fabulous, they actually remember your name. And contrary to what folks have said in the past, this Jag works great, NO repeat NO quality problems. I cant think of a rattle or a squeak to complain about. You have to drive this car to appreciate it..a nice commuter car during the week and a hell raiser on weekends... Im a convert..I might just end up with five..

When purchased the vehicle was a certified used vehicle. Went back within a month for a leak from the engine and had to constantly go back for transmission shifting problem, trunk latch stinking. The 4.2 engine is powerful. The exterior and interior is very elegant. Cup holders are too small.

  • Luxurious yet fussy - 2003 Jaguar S-Type

About 3 weeks ago, I purchased this vehicle and boy was I proud. I am 25 and driving a Jag. Luckily I also kept my trusty 04 Honda Accord just in case and now I am glad that I did. The Jag started to act funny within 2 weeks of purchase. The light bulbs fried, the transmission makes funny noises if not warmed up (driven for over 30 mins), the steering makes a clanking noise when turning hard. I am honestly becoming quite concerned over this vehicle. But the price for it was great! Worse case scenario, over the life of the vehicle Ill throw in some money to keep it running as long as possible. It is a JAGUAR in the end. Known for their temperamental behaviors.

  • Turns more heads than any other car yet - 2003 Jaguar S-Type

I took ownership right after the 2003s were introduced. Gas milage on trips is about 31 mpg traveling between 70 and 80 mph. overall has averaged 25 mpg. Outstanding!! There were a few minor problems but the dealer here in Austin, TX took care of everything in a very satisfactory manner, and always provided a Jag loaner car. It is the best car I have owned for driving on the highway and around town. I usually have driven Cadillacs.

  • SO FAR SO GOOD - 2003 Jaguar S-Type
    By -

HAD BMWS AND MERCEDES IN THE PAST. FIRST JAG AND SO FAR I LOVE IT. EVERYTHING WORKS ALTHOUGH SO FAR THE GAS MILEAGE ISNT SO HOT. AVE. 21 MILES/GAL. THE ONLY TIME I SEE THE DEALER IS WHEN I GO FOR A WASH I THINK ITS THE BEST LOOKING SEDAN ON THE ROAD. CHANGED TO JAG CAUSE I GOT FED UP WITH GETTING RIPPED OFF EVERYTIME I WENT IN FOR MERCEDES SERVICE. THE DEALER WAS ARROGANT. HE THOUGHT HE MUST BE SELLING POPE MOBILES. YOU MIGHT AS WELL HAND HIM YOUR WALLET WHEN YOU ENTER THE SERVICE AREA. ALSO HAD FOUR MERCEDES AND WITH EACH ONE THE QUALITY PROGRESSIVELY WENT DOWN.

  • Jaguar S type 4.2 Sport package - 2003 Jaguar S-Type

I have had this car a short time and put 2500 miles on it. This was more than enough to tell I made a good choice. It handles like it should have no fenders and paddle shifters (just kidding). Seriously the best handling sedan I have ever driven and I have owned three BMWs in the past 15 years plus a cadillac STS which was somewhat of a dissapointment in all respects. This car has looks, performance, and handling. What more could you want.

  • A real head turner - 2003 Jaguar S-Type

Bought this British Racing Green vehicle from the dealer with 41,000 miles. Came with a 100,000 mile warranty. Car is immaculate inside and out. Added beehive grille, chrome pillars and side mirrors. Vehicle looks like it just came off the assembly line. Power is awesome, car is quiet and comfortable. Vehicle now has 131,000 miles and going great. Biggest expense to date was replacement of passenger side Xenon Headlight Assembly (leveling device went). Real pain to change burnt headlamp bulb. Bumper needs to be dropped adding a big cost for a simple problem.

  • New to Jaguar - and Loving It! - 2003 Jaguar S-Type

I just leased a 2003 S-Type V8 as my new company vehicle and Im very impressed so far. The car looks great, commands a ton of respect and goes much quicker than I would have imagined. The fuel economy is not great and Ive noticed the brake dust problem as well but it sure is a heck of a lot of fun to drive!
