This Year's Model Updates:

From the ground up, this is a completely new sport sedan based on the new Ford midsize platform. Lincoln worked with Jaguar to develop this platform, which is also used for Lincoln's LS sedan.

Pros:
  • High-tech features, practical design, classic styling.
Cons:
  • Has to prove its more than a rebadged, overpriced Lincoln LS.

  • A Beautiful Find - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

This is perhaps the best looking sedan ever made. The four round headlights and complimenting hood, surrounding a classic "tennis racket" shaped grille are distinct and perfect. The stance of the car makes it look ready to pounce. Pounce it does, with the powerful, smooth and modern 8. Jag got all the compromises right. Ride quality and handling are both superb without a bias toward one at expense of the other. The handling will greatly satisfy but the ride pampers, not punish. The power of the engine is always more than adequate, without need for high reving hysteria. Best, the Jag is as sexy as a sports coupe but works very well as a family sedan. Classic look and quality will age well.

  • Rave for Jag S - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

I have had a excellent experience with both this dealer and with the vehicle itself. This jag makes you want to drive everywhere! Even young people give me thimbs up when they walk past me at a stop light! Ive had only a few minor problems with this pre-owned beauty, all covered under warranty, and no hassles about it at all. Ill definitely buy another one.

  • My rainy day car - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

I purchased a 2000-S with 24,000 miles from Budget. I figured that a car with a supposedly poor reputation would have been driven less than say a Ford Victoria.I had it appraised by a Jag dealer and there were assorted minor faults. Budget paid for the repairs totaling about $400. From reviews, I always use the brake pedal or the parking brake before moving from park to drive. So far, no problems, a delight to drive, seafoam color (a rare one). Mileage is poor, but with a car like this why complain. When I want to be pampered, its the S type. Listening to the beat of the car is so important for any car. Do this with the Jag and it will serve you well.

Great car to drive. Handles well except on snowy roads. Fuel mileage not great. Inside configuration is well designed. Excellent pick-up.

  • Love my Jag! - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

I bought my 2000 Jag S-Type in 2008 with only 30,000 original miles. It now has 57K but has had some AC/Heater problems fortunately covered by the extended warranty which cost close to 4,300 to repair. The sensor in the gas tank seems to cause the Check Engine light to come on and off when the tank is full or empty. So I live with that knowing that there is a sensitive problem with the CE light and gas tank. The car is a real eye catcher and the ride is so smooth. I love the way the car seems to hug you too. My only concern is that I have left my car and come back and found my windows down and sunroof open. My husband believes me now since it happened to him also. Weird. I still love my Jag!

  • Love it - Hate it - Dont buy it! - 2000 Jaguar S-Type
    By -

I fell in love with the lines and appearance of the S-Type when they first came out, so I bought a used one several years ago with less than 40k miles on it. Thats where the love affair ended. This car (as are most S-Types) quickly became a mechanical nightmare (and I take care of my cars and am an easy driver). With less than 12k miles on it, I had issues with the brakes, coolant leak, gasket leak, radiator leak, failed headlights, issues with front brakes, failed cig lighter, failed O2Sensor, failed catalyst...the list never stops. Jag quality was bad, but Ford didnt help!

Purchased brand new, and it was money well spent. Invested in additional options e.g. interior wood package, chrome rims and body chrome.... and with the Jag being Black.... it remains a head turner. I have owned and continue to own many luxury cars, as well. Within the past two years, the only out of pocket expenses paid were for a cracked windshield fluid container, oil pan gasket, ignition coil set replacement, and the interior roof fabric had to be redone. My Jag has been reliable, and it is fun to drive. It is a definite keeper! And it is now 2009.

  • Terrible Reliability - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

This is the worst luxury (?) car I have ever had. Never know what is going to fail next. How can Jaguar get away with such an awful car? I have spent thousands repairing this car. Do yourself a favor and buy something else. Anything else.

  • S Series is a big disappointment - 2000 Jaguar S-Type
    By -

While a great looking and driving car, the quality and reliability (=maintenance expense) for this $50,000+ luxury car is bitterly disappointing. Ownership costs for maintenance alone exceeds $2000 per year - from basic manufacturing defects. Ford does not stand behind this product. Consequently, Ive purchased my last Ford product.

  • Transmision is crap - 2000 Jaguar S-Type
    By -

With age, (i.e. around 50000 mi), the transmission will not come out of park on "any" slope. This is not fixable according to Jaguar and is still being duplicated on the new ones. To us, this means, that it is not econimically fixable without listening to a lot of our grief, or some class action response. Their "answer" is to always remember to put the emerg brake on first, then put in park, then turn off the engine. Their own service person didnt do this on our last oil change. According to their consumer response people, this is a "Typical and common problem".
