This Year's Model Updates:

From the ground up, this is a completely new sport sedan based on the new Ford midsize platform. Lincoln worked with Jaguar to develop this platform, which is also used for Lincoln's LS sedan.

Pros:
  • High-tech features, practical design, classic styling.
Cons:
  • Has to prove its more than a rebadged, overpriced Lincoln LS.

  • Looks amazing, quality is the worst of all-time - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

I always loved the looks of Jaguars. I always wanted one. I bought a 2000 S-Type with 48k miles on it. Thought, I cant go wrong! From day 1, every, oh, Id say 30-45 days, the check engine light comes on. Yes, needs a repair, whether it be minor or major about once a month, on average. Ignition Coils, 4 catalytic converters, oxygen sensor, the Heat completely stopped working twice, Gearbox went, had a bizarre problem with my rear brakes, CD changer shorted out, cigarette lighter blows fuses once a month, rear windows dont go down, one back door doesnt shut all the way... I could literally go on and on. This car is the biggest piece of crap imaginable.

  • Run far from this car - dont do it - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

Worst purchase of my life. 55k when purchased and 6 months later I have less than 60k and have had the car in the shop more than 5 times. Replaced evaporator, condenser, 2 coils with the need to still replace the others. Both back windows quit working. One of them falls down. Idles rough probably because of the coils. Trans doesnt shift correctly. Interior compartment door latch broke. Entire dash taken out to repair freon leak. Total cost has been over 2k in repairs without fixing some of the outstanding problems. Every time I see a car like this I say "but isnt it pretty". In other words if you want a car that looks great but runs like crap then buy this car. If you value your money dont.

  • A Beautiful Piece of Crudd... - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

I purchased this 2000 S type 3.0 several years ago with less than 40K miles on it. Its an absolutely beautiful car and I still get compliments from strangers. IF they only knew what sort of NIGHTMARE this car is mechanically. From cheap front headlights, to constant leaks, continued engine trouble, poor brakes and constant repair bills. Im looking to dump this car as soon as it makes sense monetarily. DO NOT buy a 2000 Jag S Type from any dealer. At first, youll love you car ... but eventually youll regret the day you drove it off the lot.

Runs great. mph 16-27. Side mirror reduces view when turning left.A little tight for back seat passengers. When turning into a street with speed bumps, a little bumpy. Go slow. Only car, besides previously owned XJ-6 that gets unsolicited rave compliments. When traveling over certain types of highway produces a bit high road noise. Radio station selection on steering wheel eliminates taking eyes off the road. Could use some front top windshield tinting, which I added. Ample trunk room.

  • From BMW M3 to Jag Type S? - 2000 Jaguar S-Type
    By -

Went from a 97 BMW M3 which was a wonderfully reliable, striking, and fun to drive vehicle because my wife was tired of shifting in heavy traffic, etc. Bought the jag from one of my customers- it has been a wonderful vehicle! No headaches, suffering, or disasters! Had a couple of small problems, quickly and easily solved. Thje car is certainly more sedate and refined than the M3, while the M3 is certainly the sportier of the two. The Jaguar has more options, more toys, etc. While the M3 is the better "race car" the Jaguar is certainly the choice for long, fast & relaxed cruising; the V8 engine has ample power for spirited driving in traffic. Good mileage, too: 27mpg highway.

  • Bought it 3 years ago with 139,000 miles - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

The only thing I have spent on is oil changes, worn brakes, tires, or general maintenance. This car even with the high mileage rides very very good. It is quiet and rides smoothly. It is aesthetically well proportioned and luxurious. I will say it isnt economical on gas. It also doesnt hug the road like my Volvo 950. It is solid feeling and I am enjoying the ride. I now have about 178,000 miles.

  • Transmission/Gearbox/Locks in park - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

My Jaguar was a gift from my husband. I love the body style of the car, however I am suprised that a recall has not been issued for the cars defaults such as transmission/gearbox failure. My cars has gotten stuck in park on three occassion, it happens on inclines.I have also experienced several small items breaking/falling apart on the car such as latch on opening to gastank, windows falling out, gastank replaced, seatleather redone. One other problem I have had was valves replaced. esomd

The console storage is small, there are too many squeeks and rattles for a car of this price, and the rear window motor gave out with less than 20,000 miles. The car handling is excellent for a vehicle of this size, acceleration is quick and with the upgraded tires wet weather handling is very firm. I was hit on the passenger side by a Ford F350 duel wheel pick-up with very little impact into the passenger compartment. The car is very sturdy. No passenger injuries at all. Unfortunately, it cost $8000. to repair my car, and took over a month to get the parts. I still consider this a great car for the price!

  • S for Sensational - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

Great car. Rides great, looks great, and performs great. This car turns heads. Its style and raw HP blows away all other cars in its class. Jaguar sets the standard for cars, Ray Catena sets the standard for dealerships. I used Ray Catenas "Internet Sales" option to negotiate and purchase my car -- it was easy, pleasant, and way too cool.
