This Year's Model Updates:

From the ground up, this is a completely new sport sedan based on the new Ford midsize platform. Lincoln worked with Jaguar to develop this platform, which is also used for Lincoln's LS sedan.

Pros:
  • High-tech features, practical design, classic styling.
Cons:
  • Has to prove its more than a rebadged, overpriced Lincoln LS.

  • $60,000. Hunk o JUNK - 2000 Jaguar S-Type
    By -

I have owned about 15 cars since I was 16 years old. The Jaguar was purchased new for $60k. It needed internal engine work @ 8K mi, 12K, 20K and 50Kmi. When I got it home from the last engine overhaul ($1800) the radiator started leaking. After that the transmission staarted downshifting on the freeway. At 60,000 mi I had to dump it. It was a VERY expensive mistake. DO NOT BUY ONE.

  • Run far from this car - dont do it - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

Worst purchase of my life. 55k when purchased and 6 months later I have less than 60k and have had the car in the shop more than 5 times. Replaced evaporator, condenser, 2 coils with the need to still replace the others. Both back windows quit working. One of them falls down. Idles rough probably because of the coils. Trans doesnt shift correctly. Interior compartment door latch broke. Entire dash taken out to repair freon leak. Total cost has been over 2k in repairs without fixing some of the outstanding problems. Every time I see a car like this I say "but isnt it pretty". In other words if you want a car that looks great but runs like crap then buy this car. If you value your money dont.

  • A Beautiful Piece of Crudd... - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

I purchased this 2000 S type 3.0 several years ago with less than 40K miles on it. Its an absolutely beautiful car and I still get compliments from strangers. IF they only knew what sort of NIGHTMARE this car is mechanically. From cheap front headlights, to constant leaks, continued engine trouble, poor brakes and constant repair bills. Im looking to dump this car as soon as it makes sense monetarily. DO NOT buy a 2000 Jag S Type from any dealer. At first, youll love you car ... but eventually youll regret the day you drove it off the lot.

  • Run from the 2000 S-type 3.0 - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

After reading the other reviews in here (very few of which were positive) I can concur with almost everything. This car, though gorgeous, is a mechanical nightmare. I bought mine used, its almost paid off, and I will get rid of it asap. If you ever by an s- type 3.0, youd better have a great warranty to fix the common issues seen on almost all s types eventually: (coils fail, o2 sensors fail, coolant seals fail, headlights fail, headliner falls, oil leaks, transmission problems, weak brakes, plastic parts eventually fail, rear window tracks fail.) if you do your research (like I should have) youll see negative comments all over the web about this model car. Buy it if you can afford many repairs!

  • Worst car I ever owned!!! - 2000 Jaguar S-Type
    By -

I bought my 2000 S-Type 4.0 new and have spent a fortune on it and had many days in the shop while still warranted as well. Dont believer I ever got out fr less than $800. I can count on one hand how many people have ever sat in the back seat, that window never is used, yet Im on my fourth window raising device. The car leaks and three trips to the shop they cant find the source carpet If the car stalls right after starting, it will never start again, have had it towed four times. Ball joints gone at 70k, trunk has leaked since it was new. the gas release has stopped three times, the mirrors dont adjust and theres a rattle in the center of the dash they cant find a solution for.

  • WORST vehicle for QUALITY. - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

Expensive repair required every 90 days. Every thing is repaired from trans/engine to things you can not expect. It is always a surprise. But best part is you will replace lot of window regulators. Recommend to STOP using window.

  • Love it - Hate it - Dont buy it! - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

I fell in love with the lines and appearance of the S-Type when they first came out, so I bought a used one several years ago with less than 40k miles on it. Thats where the love affair ended. This car (as are most S-Types) quickly became a mechanical nightmare (and I take care of my cars and am an easy driver). With less than 12k miles on it, I had issues with the brakes, coolant leak, gasket leak, radiator leak, failed headlights, issues with front brakes, failed cig lighter, failed O2Sensor, failed catalyst...the list never stops. Jag quality was bad, but Ford didnt help!

  • Looks great; pity about the mechanics - 2000 Jaguar S-Type
    By -

Love the outside, pity about the workmanship. Yes the interior doesnt hold much room, but I didnt buy it for that. Unfortunately just after the warantee finished both front windows fell off their levers costing and arm and a leg to fix. The moulding on the front of the car also came away.

  • Beautiful But Dont Go There - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

Ive made 17 trips to the dealership for warranty work. Over 1% of the mileage accrued was logged on trips to and from the dealership. To date Ive spent almost two work weeks of time due to dealer visits. The check engine light has been on for 1/2 of the 45,000 miles logged. A window fell out. Wheel bearings shot. Goofy radio that came on of its own volition. Transmission defect.Sensors failed. If you are lonely and seek human interaction buy a Jaguar 2000 S Type 4.0. You will get loads of human interaction at the dealership because youll visit the folks there frequently. Also be prepared for multiple dealership visits for the same problem.
