This Year's Model Updates:

From the ground up, this is a completely new sport sedan based on the new Ford midsize platform. Lincoln worked with Jaguar to develop this platform, which is also used for Lincoln's LS sedan.

Pros:
  • High-tech features, practical design, classic styling.
Cons:
  • Has to prove its more than a rebadged, overpriced Lincoln LS.

  • Aging Badly - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

We have absolutely loved this car, and up until now, marveled at how much Fords ownership had improved the reliability of the marque (vis a vis Jaguars reputation in the 1980s). At five years of age, window channels and other relatively minor things broke that would never have failed in some other automobiles. Most recently, with less than 40,000 miles on the odometer, we got to pay $2,400+ for a transmission rebuild. It was explained that there is a "braking mechanism" in the transmission that helped slow the car when the foot was lifted aff of the accelerator. Ford has improved Jaguars reputation from their former deplorable reputation up to Fords mediocre at best reliability.

I enjoy driving my car everywhere and the style is so classy and elegant. I couldnt ask for a better performance car and very comfortable not to mention that it is fun to drive no matter what day. I intent to keep my car for a long time and who knows it might become a collectors car in the future.

  • A Beautiful piece of crap! - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

I bought this vehicle with 90,000 miles on it as a back up vehicle, but simply fell in love with it. It rides so smooth that we ended up driving it more and more, unfortunately it has too many issues; the transmission being the main one. Also the fail safe engine mode light comes on once a month, it seems like and its always a $400-500 repair. You have to get it fixed b/c if you dont your car can shut down and just go 15 mph; not something you want to happen when you are on the interstate. Beautiful vehicle, but too much of a headache!

The car falls apart a little more every day. Service actions overseas were prompt but not in USA. Motor problems at 50K, J-gate shifter with plasic piece that fails when stuck in Park, windows that will fail and fall inside the doors, over priced dealer repairs, service reps that deny what is all over the net and reported to NHTSA and Jag international that does not care at all!

  • Perfect choice - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

Bought the car with 60,000 miles. The car was in mint condition. GPS, voice activation controls, cd player, all the extras worked great like they were advertised. Car turns heads everywhere. All women say its their dream car. V8 is strong, suspension a little tight, but it has the sports package which might explain it. Only mechanical problems was the thermostat stuck closed causing it to overheat.

  • S-type two years later - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

After comparison shopping (Volvo bi- turbos, BMW 540) bought a demo S-type in August 2000. Two years later I can report that the experience has been perfect - I mean PERFECT! Since delivery NOTHING has gone wrong with this car - not only no big things but not even a loose stitch in the upholstery or a rattle. Its been 100% reliable. I am an aggressive driver and appreciate and use the ABS and traction control features regularly. The engine is silky smooth with an appropriate growl which comes in at about half throttle. The transmission is good - not great. Slowly depressing the throttle gets you accelerated much faster with less fuss.

  • Nothing to fear from this Jag - 2000 Jaguar S-Type
    By -

As a former Lexus owner, when I bought this Jag, I was prepared for the worst, mechanically. After over three years - to my absolute pleasure - this has been and remains a phenomenal vehicle - mechanically and visually. I would purchase another without hesitation when that time comes. During my ownership, Ive only had one issue. A rear window belt snapped and had to be replaced. Easily done at the dealership...and not too obnoxiously priced. So far, the quality is right on par with the Lexus...but with much better performance and more style.

  • WORST vehicle for QUALITY. - 2000 Jaguar S-Type

Expensive repair required every 90 days. Every thing is repaired from trans/engine to things you can not expect. It is always a surprise. But best part is you will replace lot of window regulators. Recommend to STOP using window.
