Overview & Reviews
A gold trim package is added to the Trooper's option list and Torque on Demand is now standard with the automatic transmission.
- Huge interior, good off-road ability, outstanding visibility.
- Truck-like handling that is less refined than some of the competition.

You may like it now, but try to sell it! - 1999 Isuzu Trooper
By Not Happy at All - December 23 - 10:00 amThe Trooper doesnt hold its value. If you are not in it for the full term of the note, dont buy it. I paid a really low price for it new, but I will still be upside down in my note for a very long time. And comfort? Whats that. I think Isuzu Engineers sleep on stone beds!

Burns oil - 1999 Isuzu Trooper
By Frank - November 17 - 3:53 pmWe bought the trooper used. It runs just great. The problem is it Burns about a quart of oil each tank full of gas. Looked on the Internet after we bought it, tears and found the 1998 and 1999 troopers have an oil burning problem.

Best SUV around - 1999 Isuzu Trooper
By Skinny - August 23 - 10:00 amIve had 2 Troopers and loved them both. Large size SUV interior without taking up 3 parking spots. Very reliable. You cant find a better SUV for the price.

Gone too soon - 1999 Isuzu Trooper
By yaboiaj1 - July 30 - 9:55 pmI had just bought my trooper automatic wasnt an option up there neway it was used 135k + mi. and I was paying for a little over a year I had I believe 3 more payments left and it threw a rod or whatever to me it wasnt worth the fix. We had a love hate relationship. Ill never forget driving away from it looking through the rearview for the last time. I never saw it again there was a terrible ticking noise in the engine everywhere I went I constantly had people saying you need oil took it to the shop they said I didnt but something was obviously wrong Ive been car less for a year I truely miss my trooper but I honestly wouldnt recommend it to anyone

Unhappy with quality, performance - 1999 Isuzu Trooper
By TahoeNextTime - March 30 - 10:00 amAt 50000 miles it needed a new engine. Something expensive breaks every 3000- 4000 miles. Slow. Crappy off-road. Ok on the street. Isuzu Motors corp. is unresponsive and unhelpful

Trooper Fan! - 1999 Isuzu Trooper
By TBrye - March 17 - 2:00 amGreat vehicle. Second Trooper weve owned. Sorry to see the model discontinued. No desire to look at Ascender. Might as well go directly to GM if I want a TrailBlazer or Envoy

Watch out for timing problems - 1999 Isuzu Trooper
By dawelch_in_AK - January 29 - 10:00 amThe Trooper is great up here in Alaska off roading, or whatever. Good to drive in all weather conditions; love the Torque on Demand. HOWEVER, I recently had the timing belt changed, and a week later, the bolt that connects the timing belt to the engine sheered in half. This royally hosed my engine. Bent 6 valves out of 24. This bolt supposedly should not break, but it did.

STAY AWAY! - 1999 Isuzu Trooper
By Jeff - November 10 - 9:16 amI bought a 1999 Trooper expecting the same performance as I had with my 1992. Boy was I wrong! I ran my 92 Trooper to about 150,000 with very few problems. The engine died at 68,000 on my 99 Trooper costing me over $4,000 to repair. How ironic that my warranty ended at 60,000 miles. Isuzu has known for a while about the inherent engine problems with the 1998 and 1999 Troopers. However, they refuse to do a recall.
