This Year's Model Updates:

The 2005 Honda Pilot receives a new 255-hp engine, along with numerous functional changes. A tire-pressure monitoring system has been added, and EX models with leather get vehicle stability control. Slightly increased fuel capacity helps extend driving range, and a revised power steering pump provides improved on-center steering feel. Inside the cabin, the instrument panel has been tweaked with ambient lighting and a six-disc CD changer for all EX trims. A driver footrest has been added, and leather-upholstered EX models can now be had with a sunroof. The LX now has standard keyless entry, and all models get an integrated remote key and fob. Honda has made slight frame changes this year that resulted in improved IIHS crash test ratings.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride, smooth power delivery.
Cons:
  • Mediocre towing capacity, side curtain airbags not available, feels big behind the wheel.

  • Almost Perfect - 2005 Honda Pilot

I bought my 05 EX from a car broker 2 years ago in 2008 as I always wanted a SUV for the convenience and to able to go on trips with my family. Its been a great purchase thus far. The pilot has a powerful engine with ample room, the 3rd row seating is not great, but Ive been able to fit 9 adults (albeit were all skinny) comfortably on long trips. Ive used it many times to help my friends move, its easy to fold the 2nd and and 3rd row seats down for transporting large items, it can do it all! This past year I was able to test it out with the record snow falls in the north east, and drove through 2 ft of snow without any problems, if youre thinking about getting an SUV, I recommend it.

Two areas of concern: poor sound system (need to fiddle, fiddle, fiddle with dials when switching from talk to music), and tailgate height when open. Other than those, it is a strong value. Very capable in icy snowy conditions.

  • Love this car. Hate the mileage - 2005 Honda Pilot

This is my favorite car that Ive ever owned. I love everything about it, except the mileage. But, Im willing to look past that! Love the center console in the front seat. Love the cargo room. Love the spacious back seats. Love the looks. Love the pep. It really is a fantastic car! Weve always had Hondas, but for some reason, I wasnt interested in the Pilot until we drove it, and now, Im hooked. Best car ever.

  • High Quality SUV - 2005 Honda Pilot

I am the 2nd owner of this 2005 EX-L with built in navigation and entertainment system. Got it 2 yrs. ago as I wanted an SUV with excellent visibility and reliability. Honda has not disappointed me as vehicle has both. Only maintenance has been oil changes. I now need new tires at 63k miles-not bad! Gas mileage is not great-I average 18 MPG combined but this is a 6 cyl. so gas mileage is not going to be fantastic. I was thinking of downsizing to get better gas mileage. I looked at many other SUVs and none compared with the Pilot. I dont want to sacrifice comfort and space so I am keeping it. Excellent headroom, spacious interior. Rear a/c great for my dogs! Handles great in snow.

  • Love my Honda - 2005 Honda Pilot

I had a 2005 Ex-L Honda Pilot. I loved it from the beginning. Best vehicle I have owned thus far. I am pretty sure it saved my life, with the safety features it has I am very grateful. I was recently in a head on collision and my honda held up its end, I walked away with minor aches and pains. By the looks of it I should have been much worse! I would buy another in a heart beat.

  • Solid SUV - 2005 Honda Pilot

I debated between my 2005 Honda Pilot and a 2008 Jeep Commander. I settled on the Honda. Love the room and cargo space. I seldom use the 3rd row seating but it is roomy for the kids. The gas mileage is not bad for this SUV. Has great get up and go and looks nice on the road!

The design and features are excellent. There is quite a bit of room for cargo when the seats are down. However, it would be better if it came with an option for a sunroof.

  • Big in a Small Package - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

This SUV is surprisingly roomy and seats eight quite comfortably (since second row is adjustable) for rides up to 100 miles or so. Its length is less than an Accord or Camry, yet it has the room of many larger SUVs. Gas mileage on the road is averaging 23 MPG, if you keep it at 65 mph.

This is the best vehicle we have ever owned. It drives like a car but has more than enough room for a family of four plus dogs.

  • Pleasure vehicle - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

Weve had this vehicle 2 weeks (EXL) and it is a pleasure to drive. We traded our 2003CRVEX which was a great car,but the Pilot is so much roomier, comfortable and luxurious.I looked and compared suvs and the Pilot was the best value, and suv. No need to purhcase manufacturers packages and options, everything was standard. In 35 years of driving this is the best weve had.
