This Year's Model Updates:

The 2005 Honda Pilot receives a new 255-hp engine, along with numerous functional changes. A tire-pressure monitoring system has been added, and EX models with leather get vehicle stability control. Slightly increased fuel capacity helps extend driving range, and a revised power steering pump provides improved on-center steering feel. Inside the cabin, the instrument panel has been tweaked with ambient lighting and a six-disc CD changer for all EX trims. A driver footrest has been added, and leather-upholstered EX models can now be had with a sunroof. The LX now has standard keyless entry, and all models get an integrated remote key and fob. Honda has made slight frame changes this year that resulted in improved IIHS crash test ratings.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride, smooth power delivery.
Cons:
  • Mediocre towing capacity, side curtain airbags not available, feels big behind the wheel.

  • BUY THIS ONE! - 2005 Honda Pilot

With a family of five (3 kids 9,6,&4), we desired an SUV w/ a third row and a dvd. I personally desired leather. After months of research, it came down to the 2005 Pilot and the 2005 Pathfinder. With basically the same amenities, the Honda came in about $3,000 less than the Pathfinder. We are extremely pleased with our purchase. The Pilot has excellent room and superb power. If you are looking for a so-called "mid-size" SUV, BUY THE PILOT!

  • Best SUV I have ever had. - 2005 Honda Pilot

We bought this 2005 EX-L to replace a 2003 Pilot. After 57,00 miles, this has been the best driving SUV I have ever owned. The power was surprisingly peppy. It is easy to maneuver and drives more like a car than a truck. I am having a difficult time justifying paying up for a 2009 Pilot that weighs 177 pounds more, 3ft pounds more torque, but 5 less horsepower (250 vs 255). I added the tow package on myself and tow my motorcycles, Waverunner, and loaded utility trailer weighing 2000#+ with ease through Wisconsin hills. I bought an aftermarket Garmin GPS and dont really miss any of the other new gadgets. We have had a few minor problems that were covered by the warranty. Great in snow/ice.

  • I LOVE MY 2004 PILOT - 2005 Honda Pilot

I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED A HONDA BUT BEFORE I BOUGHT THE PILOT I WANTED TO TEST SOME OTHERS SO I DID AND WENT RIGHT BACK TO THE PILOT. I LOVE MY PILOT. I WOULDNT OWN ANYTHING BUT A HONDA!!! IF THE HONDA HAD A JAMMING STEREO SYSTEM IN IT I PROBABLY WOULD SLEEP IN IT. NEEDS BETTER SPEAKERS. NOT AS CLEAR AS IT SHOULD BE. THAT IS MY ONLY COMPLAINT.

  • Its a keeper - 2005 Honda Pilot

We bought our Pilot about a year or so ago, and still love it. Its reliable, quiet, and comfortable. Only fault so far is with the seat control panel on the left side of drivers seat; we are on the 2nd replacement; seems that the movement of getting in/out knocks it off the seat. Just a minor thing, but an convenience.

  • No more Fords for us! - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

After 12 yrs of leasing Ford vehicles- Taurus, Windstar, Expedition... we went looking for another vehicle (other than at our beloved ford dealership) WOW! Great fit and finish-->we have become so used to saying-its a nice vehicle, but its a ford...rather, now we cannot believe how much more refined the Pilot EX/RES is! Great value for the money(my other car is a MBenz 500 SEL so we have the means)I would urge you to check out the Pilot - my wife loves it!

  • Great Buy! We love our Pilot! - 2005 Honda Pilot

We bought this vehicle to take a 21 hour road trip while my husband was deployed. My daughter (3 years old), our dog and I piled up in the Pilot with enough stuff to be away from home for 8 months. The space inside of the vehicle is great. You can pile a lot of stuff in it and there are many places to store things (like breakables or liquids). We didnt get the Pilot with the DVD player but had one installed at Best Buy and love it. I didnt want to pay for leather seats to get a DVD player. Gas mileage was a little disappointing but it does get the mileage it claims it will. I can get better mileage if I use cruise control. Vehicle has good power. Sits higher then other SUVs.

  • Solid Vehicle - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

This an extremely solid vehicle. I really have no complaints. I live in Michigan where we get a lot of snow and ice. Its nearly impossible to get this car to slip or slide. It has more than enough cargo space, yet it doesnt feel like an enormous vehicle when youre in it. I did have to have a power window motor replaced, but it was covered under warranty. Other than that, I havent had so much as a hiccup through 53,000 miles. The only issue I have is that the Pilot is kind of boring. Theres nothing exciting about the interior or exterior design, but I can think of much worse problems to have.

  • its the little details - 2005 Honda Pilot

I love my Pilot but there are a few improvements that could be made. The extra tripometer is a waste because it zeros out at 1000. There is not a compass on the model w/the entertainment center. I need this feature! The radio controls on the steering wheel are very nice and habit forming, but, the choices should be for a chanel and for scan or next station. You dont need it to change from feature to feature and when you get in the urban areas 6 choices of stations arent enough. Id rather be able to go to the next station and hit it multiple times to find one that sounds right. Over all, drive and comfort is wonderful. The thermostat controlled heat is fantastic. I love my Honda!

  • The Accord of SUVs - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

Went in looking at the Highlander, 4Runner, and Pilot. Pilot being most expensive. Highlander was too station wagon, the 4Runner was too small. The Pilot was just right. Its not an exciting vehicle, but it does everything very well. Im not a fan of their dashboard design either. Its functional, but too vanilla.
