This Year's Model Updates:

The 2005 Honda Pilot receives a new 255-hp engine, along with numerous functional changes. A tire-pressure monitoring system has been added, and EX models with leather get vehicle stability control. Slightly increased fuel capacity helps extend driving range, and a revised power steering pump provides improved on-center steering feel. Inside the cabin, the instrument panel has been tweaked with ambient lighting and a six-disc CD changer for all EX trims. A driver footrest has been added, and leather-upholstered EX models can now be had with a sunroof. The LX now has standard keyless entry, and all models get an integrated remote key and fob. Honda has made slight frame changes this year that resulted in improved IIHS crash test ratings.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride, smooth power delivery.
Cons:
  • Mediocre towing capacity, side curtain airbags not available, feels big behind the wheel.

Its not too big, and not too small. It handles like a dream. I love the ease of the back seats...no seat removal necessary. Need more room? just put the seats down. They nearly flatten out completely. Honda has put a lot of thought and design into this vehicle.

I purchased a Honda CR-V in October of 1998. I purchased the Honda because of its reputation and I needed more room for my 2 growing children. Well this year I decided to make a new purchase, I wanted to keep my CR-V because it was paid for but decided against it for personal reasons. So... I traded it in for my 2005 Honda Pilot. Best decision I have made thus far this year. I am totally satisfied with the Pilot and I plan to make Honda a family tradition for myself and my children. I never had a day of trouble from my CR-V, change the oil , brakes and tires and that was it, I was and am truely satisfied with Honda. Next time I am going to get fully loaded, leather seats, and navigation.!

My first Honda... wonderful car... interior switch gear is odd: the single stalk to operate the wipers is confusing as I own and operate two other cars.

Havent had the vehicle long, but this one is really a treat. Having put a tranny in an ML320 at 110K, decided to hunt for another rig....after mass test drives of everything you could imagine, decided on the Pilot...and absolutely no regrets..this SUV rides better than most upscale cars, great power availability, nice fit/finish and cant wait to drive it tomorrow.

  • I Love This Car!!! - 2005 Honda Pilot

I have wanted the Pilot for over a year now. My husband bought me one and I love this car. It is comfortable and fun to drive. Lots of room inside for the kids. So much comes standard on this car. My only complaint would be that I dont get that great of gas mileage. It said 17-22. I drive streets and only average about 13-14 mpg. WhenI do drive the freeway, I get good mileage. Everything I was looking for in a car.

  • Solid, but I expected more from Honda - 2005 Honda Pilot

Upon arriving at my parents house, I was pleasantly suprised to find they bought a new Pilot. The very first thing I noticed upon entry was that the dash and trim pieces are all hard plastic save the rubber grips on the door handles. I was immediately disappointed as I own a 2000 Civic and theres soft touch material everywhere inside and it costs about half as much as the Pilot. Honda, the last thing we need is another GM, please get your act together and hide cost cutting measures a bit better. Other than that, the car is built in typical Honda fashion with solid build quality and a buttery smooth engine. Cant say its the most attractive car, but fortunately appearance is irrelevant

I replaced my 94 Cad Seville and 99 Honda CRV with an 05 Pilot EXL a few months ago. So far so good.Have paid more for cars but think this may be indeed the best car Ive ever owned overall. It is quieter than the CRV although still noisy on certain road surfaces, and doesnt get the fuel economy the Seville did (25+ mpg on the highway with 91 octane vs about 21 with 89 for the Pilot so probably a push cost wise? But worse than the CRV overall for sure. Worth it though overall I think because it is quiet enough I can listen to the radio at highway speeds--not possible in the CRV--and a much more comfortable ride. Will be adding a Toyota Avalon to my "fleet" for reasons unimportant to you.

  • First SUV- best ever - 2005 Honda Pilot

I have driven many SUVs from Trailblazers to Explorers, this is the best I have come across. It drives like a car not as a major uHaul. Its stylish and its good to go.

  • Safety is questionable - 2005 Honda Pilot

My 05 Honda Pilot would come to a grinding halt without warning. The incidents occurred 3 times - 2 from taking off from a stop light and the 3rd time while driving a 55 mph. I was lucking all three cases that the individuals behind me were paying close attention.

  • Fantastic Auto - 2005 Honda Pilot

The finest ride for a SUV. Comfort is excellent. A much finer auto than my Chrysler 300. I could not be more pleased with the selection we made for my wife.
