  • Late Model Lemon - 1999 Honda Passport

I bought this car used from a reputable Honda dealership. I have only owned it for nine months and now I have to do all kinds of repairs to it, just so I can trade it in and wash my hands of a second rate psuedo Honda. Since my purchase in December 2001, I had the fuel gauge fixed ($450), and now the ABS pump isnt working ($500), and the clutch humms loudly when depressed ($600-$1000). I cant wait to get rid of this lemon. Do yourself a favor, when you want to buy a honda, make sure it is actually a Honda.

Well in the short term, what a great SUV!, i Dont care if it is a Rodeo underneath the Honda Emblem, what a fun truck to drive. No major Warranty claims to date. Have not been off pavement yet, but will write about it when I do.

I have a 1994 Honda Passport with around 139,000 miles on it. Every since I bought it in 1997 it has been very dissapointing. It really does not deserve the Honda name because it doesnt live up to the usual quality and reliability standards associated with that name. I have had to fix (or attempt to fix) several oil leaks. The most recent one leaked into the alternator and ruined it. I also found out from several mechanics that this Isuzu engine starts to have problems around 100,000 miles and the problems are mostly irrepairable. I would highly recommend NOT buying this vehicle because you will have major problems.

  • Great SUV!!!! - 1999 Honda Passport

Ive had it for almost three years now and Ive never had any trouble. It handles like a car but can do things a truck can do. My brother owned an explorer and he and his wife found my Passport to be more fun to drive, better looking and overall and more pleasant driving experience when compared to their explorer.

Ran good up to about 100k, then stuff started to go wrong. Water pump, cv boot(VERY EXPENSIVE), and lots of small things. Dont think it was make to solid, because it makes lots of small sounds and squeaks. The engine now may have a knocking rocker that may be expensive. Not a very ruged off road vehicle. It does have lots of room in it. I have a friend that has a 4 runner, and in the back of a 4 runner there is no leg room, but in the passport their is lots of room. It was a good car in the earlier milesf

The vehicle developed problem with multiple systems - engine, brakes, emissions, and electric. Very unreliable for a new vehicle. Poor quality.

  • Worst Car Ever - 1999 Honda Passport

The car was in the shop every 3 months. Maybe the reason is that it is NOT a Honda but a ISUZU.

This is the worst truck i have ever had. I had the car a year and it was in the shop 13 times.. I even had the engine replaced and it still doesnt run right. This car has cost me 7,000 dollars in repair out of my own pocket.. and I pitty the person who has to drive it next. Honda sucks!!!!!

Where do I start? The truck is in the dealers shop so much that the shop manager keeps telling my wife that she should be on the dealership payroll.
