  • Expected so much more... - 1999 Honda Passport

The problem started a month later when I needed to replace the ABS and few times the check engine light turned on with no apparent reason. The driving is very very harsh, extremely bad control (although I have a stick shift) and the worse thing is breaks. The do some weird stuff when breaking on wet asfalt or when it vibrates (somehow ABS kicks in an doesnt let breaks do their work !?!?) Tailgate is squicking all time and there is excessive noice. BTW, a reall weird stuff is that the cigarette lighter is being catapulted off the craddle when heated, I already burned my stick shift boot.

I am constantly doing engine and drivetrain repairs on this vehicle. The engine has a constant tick from the valves. At higher speeds there is a lot of wind noise coming from the doors. I would not recommend owning this vehicle.

PASSPORT RIDES LIKE A TRUCK.YOU FEEL EVERY GRAVEL ON THE ROAD. I HAVE ALSO HAD TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, AND BY THE WAY THIS IS NOT A "HONDA" IT IS A IZUSU RODEO WITH A HONDA PACKAGE. I WAS NOT TOO HAPPY TO FIND THAT OUT AFTER I HAD PURCHASED IT. GOOD LUCK.

  • Piece of junk!!!!! - 1999 Honda Passport

This is the worst car Ive ever had. Bought new in 1998. During first 4 years the following had to be replaced/repaired: transmission, engine seal, cracked intake manifold, CD player, gas guage, brakes($600), ABS pump ($560). I hope I can get rid of this car before something else breaks. Fortunately this car is no longer being made. Take my advice: dont buy it!

  • A powerful, good looking... LEMON! - 1994 Honda Passport

Good power / interior room / rugged good looks and off-road capability to match. But, nothing more than an enclosed, base-line 4x4 pick-up. If you need something to commute to a construction site and dont care if the windshield wipers, power windows, door latches, or heater core work, you will like this car. Also be prepared to fork out some big bucks for valve work at around 100kM if you prefer not to have the engine sound like a baby rattler.

  • Solid truck! - 2001 Honda Passport

After moving to Denver CO we purchased our first SUV. With nearly 20k miles of varying duties, our 01 Passport has suited us extremely well. The cabin is well laid out and the 4wd is a snap to use. It has handled 4wd in the snow to our favorite ski areas and off road in the mountains getting us to to places only accessable by 4wd. The large cargo area and easy folding rear seats been extremely useful. Steering and braking is predicatble and what we would expect for an SUV based on a truck frame.

  • Get a Pilot - 2000 Honda Passport

This vehicle obviously does not have the same level of craftsmanship as other members of the Honda line (its a Rodeo). While the exterior is attractive, the inside is cheap, the ride is excessively soft, and gas mileage is not good. With 4WD off the back end really wants to step around on me during acceleration. On the plus side I have not had any mechanical problems in three years and 20k miles. However, I am selling it and getting a Pilot (a true Honda).

  • My Honda is Great (why such bad reviews) - 2002 Honda Passport
    By -

Actually bought a silver 2001 LX model, same as 2002. We have had it now 18 months, and not one problem at all! Seriously, not one trip back to the dealer. The ride was a little squishy, leaning and tilting too much, but when i checked the air in the tires, Bingo. There was only 12lbs. in the tires, so when properly inflated the ride improved greatly. We camp with it, drive it around town, and even load it up with lumber. And it looks great, too! Why has Edmunds slammed this SUV so much, I just dont know.
