This Year's Model Updates:

The light group and speed control are now optional on LX level cars. Chrome wheels on the SE models have been replaced with five-spoke aluminum wheels.

Pros:
  • Cheap, well equipped and fairly powerful.
Cons:
  • The interior is cramped, some of the ergonomics are muddled, and the car is just weird looking.

  • Decent, When Its Running... - 1999 Ford Taurus
    By -

2nd owner of the car, bought off of a family member. Shes got 186,000 on her, but its one thing after another. First, the rack on the steering went. OK, then I blew a coolant line, which Ford says, requires me to replace ALL the coolant lines in the system. Definably going either Honda or Toyota. This is my 2nd car, and being a high school student, I cant afford the repairs. Would be a great car, if it wasnt for the mileage.

  • good car - 1999 Ford Taurus

My first car was a 90 Taurus and I beat that poor car to death. I was in a very bad accident in the Jeep that I owned before purchasing my current Taurus, so I wanted a car that was safe. I love the handling, the get up and go, and the car is incredibly comfy. However, the brakes are AWFUL, I have already had to replace them 2 times. Also, my car started chirping very loud, like a bird when it was cold (right after purchase). I was very upset thinking the guy sold me a ticking time bomb, but my Dad changed my transmission fluid on a whim and it has been quiet ever since. The previous owner used the wrong fluid. Overall I am very happy with my car. I got a very good deal on it.

  • 70K miles, no problems - 1999 Ford Taurus

I purchased this new w/ incredible discounts, $8,000 off and 0.0% financing, no Japanese car can compare with that. The interior space is great, Im 511", 270lbs and I have no problems getting in or out. I can not get into hardly any Japanese vehicle. I have not had to make any repairs on this vehicle and saved over $10,000 compared to comparable Japanese cars. I love my Taurus and will be giving it to my 16 year old son to drive because I know it is dependable.

  • Black 99 SHO - 1999 Ford Taurus
    By -

The Taurus SHO and other models (G, LX etc.) has been a very great asset to Ford. I love my SHO, it has everything I want in a car except a 5-speed or a shiftable automatic. The car is fun to drive and very solid. However, I feel that Ford has a big problem on their hands with all the terrible camshaft failures. I think Ford should own up to the problem and fix all the cars that fail or have a recall and put properly made cams in the cars. Many people love their SHOs and it seems like the right thing for Ford to do. I would expect such a huge company (one of the big three) to own up to the production flaw. Why should people have to get their cams welded? Ford needs to pay for it.

  • Great Car!! For the money that is. - 1999 Ford Taurus
    By -

I bought the car in 12/2000 with 16,000 on it. Has all the features except leather. It has been great for me so far. I do agree with others that the Duratec engine performs well, but is quite noisy, especially at full throttle. Tranny could use some improvements in the decision making process. It seems to not know when to shift or shift to early. Oh well, its not a rich mans car, so waht do we expect? Im at 39,000 now, so well see what the future brings.

The Taurus is a surprisingly good driving car. The ride is very comfortable and the handling is better than I expected. The A/C is excellent. The controls are logical and easy to use. I bought the car with 115m on it and expect over 200m with frequent oil changes and other scheduled maintenance. The car has been outstanding so far.

  • underrated! - 1999 Ford Taurus

I bought my car with leather, a sunroof, 55,000 miles and every other option available. I bought this 2 years ago, all for $5 grand. Good luck finding a 99 Camry or Accord for that price. This car is insanely underrated and is an incredible value. I have modded the heck out of this car and have gotten nothing but satisfaction with the results. I love this car.

  • 40k and its ready for the junk heap - 1999 Ford Taurus

A poorly constructed, planned obsolescent American embarrassment. All major components have worn out at about 40-50k miles. A strong reason why the Japaneses are decimating the American auto industry. Not recommended

  • Great - 1999 Ford Taurus

Bought this car used with 120k on it. It has been a blast to drive. Great gas mileage, 26MPG. Tons of spaces. put about 40k on it just had to change the alternator. Been coast to coast twice. SO MUCH FUN FOR A WAGON!

  • Practical, reliable, still fun - 1999 Ford Taurus

Great all around car. I bought it second hand and have put well over 10,000 miles on it. Good acceleration, good handling, plenty of room for four and a big trunk. I would definitely recommend the 24V motor - 50 extra HP, and huge difference in acceleration and speed over the regular 12V motor. No squeaks or rattles on the road. Fast enough to merge anywhere with no problem. I have gotten as high as 27 MPG on long trips with the cruise control set at 72-74. Overall, a great car for a reasonable price.
