Overview & Reviews
The light group and speed control are now optional on LX level cars. Chrome wheels on the SE models have been replaced with five-spoke aluminum wheels.
- Cheap, well equipped and fairly powerful.
- The interior is cramped, some of the ergonomics are muddled, and the car is just weird looking.

Problem after problem - 1999 Ford Taurus
By sadday - May 3 - 5:54 pmBought this car less than a year ago from a dealership, have had nothing but problems for the last six months. Needed a new fuel pump, engine revs itself, overheats frequently, faulty hoses and wiring, doesnt start sometimes for no reason. I was really excited when I first got the car and have been frustrated ever since.

Bad Investment - 1999 Ford Taurus
By Andrew - March 23 - 10:31 amI bought this car used from a dealership. I twisted their arm into giving me a 1K warranty and immediately I brought it in for repair. They said everything checked out fine, so I took it to a local mechanic and they said there were issues with the transmission. By the time I found that out, the 1K miles were up and the dealer only reimbursed me for some repairs done by the local mechanic within the 1K miles. 1.5 years later car still runs (barely) but the heat is gone, electric locks dont work, and I cant unlock my doors with a key in the winter cause of the internal locking mechs are bad. Do your research before purchasing a ford.

This car is Terrible - 1999 Ford Taurus
By Gnouk101 - January 24 - 11:43 pmIve had this car since 2007 and it has about 135,000 miles on it. I must say this is by far the worst car ever. The transmission is terrible and jolts all the time, especially in traffic. Gas is terrible compared to my old Avalon. gets around 16-17 in the city and 23-26 highway. As a college student I cant afford to fill this thing up all the time. I can continue to go on and on with the problems of this car. Never buy one ever.

Steer Clear - 1999 Ford Taurus
By Tom - January 30 - 12:31 pmBought this in 2000 with about 24,000 miles. Sporty, with 24V V-6, alloy wheels, spoiler. This car has been plagued with electrical problems including wipers that periodically turn on by themselves, power locks dont work, power window doesnt work. It started using oil at about 50k miles despite changing it every 3- 4k miles and no hard driving. Gas mileage is poor for a mid-sized V6 (worse than our V6 Camry and V6 minivan). The rack & pinion steering had to be replaced at about 40k miles. Has the upgraded stereo with CD changer which sounds excellent. Overall the car looks nice and is fun to drive, but the reliability is poor. I am buying Japanese from now on.

Mechanics dream - 1999 Ford Taurus
By Rick - October 26 - 9:36 pmWhat an absolute nightmare. The repair costs have exceeded the price i paid for this pile of crap. I have had to replace the hub and bearings THREE times, had to fix air conditioning and now the heater core is not working due to a leak. Oil pan, of all things, rusted out and was replaced. Water pump was replaced. Engine gaskets replaced. Transmission was replaced at 150kms. The only thing that works all the time is the check engine light. The wipers are work well, however they turn on randomly, making me look like a fool on clear and sunny days. I am currently shopping for a new vehicle, but i will NEVER purchase a FORD again. Id rather buy a horse or a bus pass.

Crappy Taurus - 1999 Ford Taurus
By Kevin - July 25 - 1:36 pmWell, the only reason that I am driving this stupid jellybean is because it was free. My mom bought it and handed it down to me. Ive been driving it for a little over a year, and I dont like it. Its somewhat reliable, but my power locks stopped functioning after 2 months. The stock rims are crappy, they are all corroded and gross. Also, it is a jellybean. There is not one corner on that car, everything is round and stupid looking. Its very comfortable though. Gas mileage isnt great but its not the worst Ive seen. Lately the engine has been revving itself so thats not good. Check engine light never goes off because Ford designed a crappy gas cap.

Sad News - 1999 Ford Taurus
By sad news - April 8 - 5:07 pmWell I am at 188,888 which is a lot, but I expected more from my Taurus. I have to date replaced rack and pionion steering and the alternator. Now the transmission is going as well as the strut mounts and the frontend. The car has been a disappoinment. My next car will not ne a domestic as my husband has a 1991 4runner with 288,000 on it and its going strong. Ford lost my business.

Nothing but trouble... - 1999 Ford Taurus
By L. Mazza - November 29 - 10:41 amBought this car with 36,000 miles for $6,000 and put almost $4,000 in repairs in 4 years. Always needs alignments. ABS light came on after front brakes were fixed. Replaced rack & pinion steering TWICE. Replaced heater core and heater broke again less than one year later. Mysterious rusty radiator fluid means more problems. Mechanic said, "I wouldnt put any more money into this car." Radiator overheated last night on my way to TOYOTA dealership. Now I have a RELIABLE car!

40k and its ready for the junk heap - 1999 Ford Taurus
By JoeCool - April 9 - 11:32 amA poorly constructed, planned obsolescent American embarrassment. All major components have worn out at about 40-50k miles. A strong reason why the Japaneses are decimating the American auto industry. Not recommended

FORD NEEDS TO DROP TAURUS - 1999 Ford Taurus
By Dev - January 26 - 1:55 pmNightmare from beginning to end. Spent top dollar on it, and it is now worth little to nothing. At 65,000 miles, transmission dropped, heater does not work, brakes are junk and they have been replaced countless times, electrical is so goofed up that I cant get the power locks to function properly, engine coolant reservoir cracked, oil seals went, sounds incredibly loud while driving, windshield wipers short out and occasionally dont work, keyless entry doesnt work. Ford really needs to drop the Taurus from its line up. It has been nothing but a money pit from day one, and we have done everything to it maintenance-wise. Its terrible on gas, our 2004 Expedition gets better mileage. What a mess.
