Overview & Reviews
The light group and speed control are now optional on LX level cars. Chrome wheels on the SE models have been replaced with five-spoke aluminum wheels.
- Cheap, well equipped and fairly powerful.
- The interior is cramped, some of the ergonomics are muddled, and the car is just weird looking.

Good car, Bad Transmission - 1999 Ford Taurus
By AmyLewis22 - July 22 - 2:00 amEvery Taurus Ive ever owned, the transmission drops before 100,000 miles. I had a 91 and the trans dropped at 98,000. Now my 99 trnas dropped at 70,000. Ive heard rumors that the Taurus is known for having bad trans by mechanics. But I love evrything eles about. No other problems.

Terrific Taurus - 1999 Ford Taurus
By KellyT - July 2 - 2:00 amI got this as my first car, and am completely in love with it. It has 75K on it, and the only fixing I had to do was when I got into a fender bender( it held up great)

Shifty at best - 1999 Ford Taurus
By wunderkid49 - April 25 - 2:00 amBy the time the car was five years old with 63k miles, I had had the transmission rebuilt, did the brakes twice myself, replaced several suspension components trying to fix dangerous at the limit handling characteristics, installed several new electrical items including power window motors and power seat switches, and several mechanics were chasing a check engine problem. All this and 22 mpg. So, I traded it this weekend for a 02 Subaru. It handles, shifts, and stops like a car should. No more Fords for me.

this car sucks - 1999 Ford Taurus
By kirgo - April 1 - 2:00 amwhen I get this car, it seems to be a good deal... what a mistake, transmission really bad, and nobody can say what is wrong, and the brakes, I have to change rotors every six months, definitly never gonna buy a Ford again.

Dont buy this car - 1999 Ford Taurus
By whocares - February 23 - 10:00 amI bought this car brand new hoping I got a deal, but after couple of weeks, automatic transmission started slipping, jerking and all that. Taken to ford dealership, could not find the problem. Got serviced at 36000, break problem started.. Now car is at 41000 miles and all kind of oil is leaking and messed up brakes too. Asked dealer why is it leaking, they are saying it is regaulr for tarus when they are above 40000. Now I am spending another $1400 to fix the oil leak. I think I did a big mistake buying this car.. Therefore people learn a lesson from me and do not go for ford taurus. One more thing to note, it has all freeway miles and easy ones..

1999 Ford Taurus SE sedan - 1999 Ford Taurus
By eepisski - December 29 - 2:00 amBought this car brand new in 1/2000. Have not had no problems with the engine or transmission like I had with my GM vehicles. Only problems I had were the wheel bearing cracked at 50000 miles nd had to be replaced. Had to replace the engine emission sensors twice. Recently, the brake light came on and stayed on even though the brakes worked fine. Had to get the brake pads and rotors replaced and now no more brake service light. This car gets good mileage and cant complain about the engine always starts in our cold MI winters.

The good and the bad - 1999 Ford Taurus
By geomore - December 9 - 2:00 amThe 200 HP engine has excellent power and gas mileage that is quite good. The transmission down shifts are rough and indecisive. The wagon is a very handy vehicle which Id rather have than an SUV. At 52,000 miles I havent had any problems but I am concerned about the durability of the transmission.
