  • Ford should never have released - 2011 Ford Explorer

BUYER BEWARE.......Picked up new XLT on 7/5/11. Next morning the MyTouch screen was not working. Waited 4 days for a new module. New Module installed except it was wrong. Now I have AC and Radio but no Navigation and the 2nd row controls dont work. 2 weeks old, 500 miles on it and 320 of the miles have been back and forth to dealer. All this after waiting three monthes to hear I could not get Tuxedo Black paint. What a mistake. Too bad because the new design is appealing and the run in nice.

Owned Mustangs, Tauruses, Windstars, Lincoln MKX.....this is it. Best Ford ever. If you live outside of big city, have kids, dog, cargo, love adventure, travel to ski country and back, want high tech mobility, connectivity plus+ for all your devices, travel in peace and quiet on highway or back country twisties, look no further. Golden Bronze metallic with pecan trim is a killer for looks. Enjoy

I have brought the car in 3 times so far for "software update" because the clock cant keep time accurately. Today after a routine oil change( the first) I was told that I had a leak in some hose or part that would take TWO WEEKS to get because it is backordered. Very disappointed in this car.

  • MySync killing a great SUV.... - 2011 Ford Explorer

Weve had our 2011 Explorer for about two months now. From the start we had multiple issues with the MySync system. As I write this review, the Explorer is yet again in the dealer for repair. Weve already had to take it back three times. This time the car over heated due to a cooling fan that shorted out. Making the issue worse, though, was the fact that after the car over heated, the MySync system crashed. Weve had two updates to the software and we are still experiencing issues with the phone, climate, navigation and audio. We had iSync in our previous 2008 Edge (IT WORKED FLAWLESSLY). Somebody rushed MySync out the door. Its ruining the other outstanding features of this SUV!

  • Ford Explorer Software Problems - 2011 Ford Explorer

I recently purchased the 2011 Ford Explorer, which to date has been a marvelous vehicle, with the exception of the on board computer screen. There is a software problem that Ford currently does not have a fix for (according to my dealer). Hence, the onboard screen shows a black screen "SYNC by Microsoft" for much of my driving pleasure. This locks up all the functions of the screen including the navigation system, Heating and Cooling, Entertainment and Phone. It also locks up (for some of the time) the reverse camera, which is a liability because one cannot see anything under 4 feet when reversing.

  • What a Great SUV...We Couldnt Be Happier - 2011 Ford Explorer

First American car weve owned since 1978 and I cant tell you how impressed I am. Traded in a 2011 Lexus RX 350 (yes, you read that correctly). The cargo space in this vehicle is not only more than adequate, the power-folding rear seats make it configurable for any load...groceries, golf, vacations, etc. As a retired geek from the computing industry, I have to hand it to Ford (or maybe Microsoft) for the SYNC MyFord Touch system. This is hands-down the best navigation and bluetooth device integrated system available on any vehicle or car. The ride and comfort will truly amaze you. It sits high like a truck frame SUV although its now a crossover, so you also get car ride comfort.

  • A really NEW Explorer - 2011 Ford Explorer
    By -

The 2011 Explorer took 51/2 months to arrive but so far, it was worth the wait. The interior is pure luxury and the exterior is upscale . The ride is totally unlike my 2001 Explorer-quieter, smoother and more stable. The My Ford Sync and My Touch systems take time on the road to master and I agree that the touch screens graphics and text size are too small. The Navigation system is a bit crazy it seems to want to take you off a direct route onto a business route as you pass small towns. We received good rebates from the dealer. Apparently Ford does not keep their dealers apprised of production/delivery info as my dealer could not explain the delay in delivery.

  • Just Awesome!!! - 2011 Ford Explorer

After driving a BMW for the past 12 years, I am extremely please with the new 2011 Ford Explorer. Detroit (Ford) has finally caught up with the Japanese and German auto manufacturer. It drives like a luxury sedan and the limited option has all the bells and whistles that you ever wanted.

We ordered our XLT in January, and took delivery in early March. We have 5k miles on it now, and are very happy with it. The quality and comfort is much, much better than any Ford we have owned previously. Interior sound levels are wonderfully quiet, and ride is firm but comfortable. Stability is much better than previous explorer models. Seats are very comfortable -- even on long road trips. Rear seats (both rows) fold completely flat, which is perfect for loading cargo or hauling the family dog pack. The standard V6 has ample power, and we still get over 22 mpg with mostly highway driving. Good job, Ford!

  • Well-made and Stylish Car but Interior Design Issues - 2011 Ford Explorer
    By -

We bought this car to replace an aging Suburban, and to downsize. We looked at the BMW X5, GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave, Ford Edge. When we were at the Ford dealer we saw a good-looking SUV we didnt recognize, and when we walked up to it realized it was an Explorer. To us the car has European styling, except for the over-sized cowling on the front end which is definitely American. The engine acceleration is adequate, but wont blow you away. We kind of miss the more powerful feeling you get with most GM SUV power-trains.
