Redesigned last year, the Expedition offers few changes for 2004. Option packages and trim levels have been slightly revised, and in some cases, renamed. The XLS replaces last year's XLT Value trim level, while a new NBX trim level replaces the FX4 off-road package. And there is now an XLT Sport trim level. A tire-pressure monitoring system is now standard on XLT, XLT Sport and Eddie Bauer, while the previously standard limited-slip rear axle is now an option.
- Well thought-out interior with plenty of room for passengers and their belongings, handy fold-flat third-row seat, impressive handling for its size, great crash test scores.
- Needs more power, ride quality suffers on rough roads.

expect high maintenance $$$ - 2004 Ford Expedition
By FormerFordFan-2 - November 26 - 2:00 amWhile my 1999 was under warranty I was forced to visit the dealer 4 times for repairs. But it was after the warranty period expired that things really started to go wrong. To date I have spent over $9,000 in repairs since the warranty expired. I am convinced that Ford sold me a defective vehicle and are continuing to sell this same vehicle still today. Sure the new one looks different, buts thats just marketing hype. This vehicle hasnt changed since 1999 just ask any honest engineer or maintenance technician at Ford and they will tell you that the only changes have been cosmetic.

This single fact ruined my ownership experience. 18 mpg on the highway (after 10,000 miles), but I didnt drive it on the highway much. Low quality audio for a $48K vehicle - lose the Visteon garbage Ford! Chattering plastic parts in the rear liftgate took forever to locate and correct (did this myself). Rear axle seals went bad at 7000 miles. I desperately wanted to like this vehicle, and I did until the economics of driving it and the problems started up. This was my first big ticket vehicle purchase and I feel I was reasonable about my expectations. My idea of $48K worth of vehicle and Fords dont match. Bitterly disappointed with Ford.
