This Year's Model Updates:

Redesigned last year, the Expedition offers few changes for 2004. Option packages and trim levels have been slightly revised, and in some cases, renamed. The XLS replaces last year's XLT Value trim level, while a new NBX trim level replaces the FX4 off-road package. And there is now an XLT Sport trim level. A tire-pressure monitoring system is now standard on XLT, XLT Sport and Eddie Bauer, while the previously standard limited-slip rear axle is now an option.

Pros:
  • Well thought-out interior with plenty of room for passengers and their belongings, handy fold-flat third-row seat, impressive handling for its size, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Needs more power, ride quality suffers on rough roads.

  • My Fourth Expy - 2004 Ford Expedition
    By -

This is my fourth Expedition since 1997. All of the previous Exps I have had were subject to severe service and were completely reliable. The chassis and frame are much stiffer offering a bank vault solid body feel. The fit and finish of body panels and interior appointments is excellent. I highly recommend the larger 5.4 liter engine with the 3.73 limited slip axle ratio and the HD trailer tow package.

  • Great Vehicle - Front Seats Not so much - 2004 Ford Expedition

Great all around vehicle. Gas mileage is the pits. Would expect full power front seats. Manual adjustment for seat back is a joke for a vehicle with this many features. Even given this problem, very happy so far.

  • Black Eddie - 2004 Ford Expedition
    By -

Very disappointed. This is our 2nd exp. In the shop 5 times. The doors shut like my 76 transam. Air leaks badly through the front passanger door. Dealer can not fix. Makes the driving experience horrible because of the money I spent for this vehicle. Other fixes, rear vibration, torn steering colum boot, and engine noise very loud. Oh well, live an learn.

  • Many Positive Comments - 2004 Ford Expedition
    By -

I receive more favorable comments on this vehicle (XLT Sport, black w/grey trim) than any Ive owned. Handles great, third-row seat is much more comfortable and functional than previous Expedition models, interior styling is much improved. Overall, very pleased with my new ride.

  • What happened? - 2004 Ford Expedition
    By -

The first week was great. After that things deteriorated. In the second week and only a few hundred miles, the AC would grind when put on and vehicle would dive and lose power. The tailgate started chattering while driving. The auto locking doors stopped working when placed in drive. The belts starting squealing. I have had two belts replaced along with the pulleyes and tensioners. Also there was a loose bolt in the rear passenger door, and a 3 inch seat securing bolt loose rolling arounfd the interior! All of this in three months of ownership, bought new. Only 3500 miles and the problems still mount. Never will own again!

  • Does not miss a bump!!! - 2004 Ford Expedition
    By -

On smooth raods the vehicle is great,But let there be a small bump,an uneven or the slightly bumpy freeway>> Good Lord!! The vehicle shakes and jerks your body to the point you are slowing down looking to avoid the small ruts, holes or any thing else causin this monster to jump up and down. The ride is very harsh!!! Too bad I test drove this on some pretty smooth streets or I wouldnt have bought it!! Now Im look for replacement suspension!!Can any one HELP? Dont ask the dealer... ?? THEY CLAIN THEREs NOTHING WRONG!! YEAH RIGHT!! Does not ride like my 1992 Nissan Pathfinder "IT WAS SMOOTHER!" WHAT HAPPENED FORD??

  • wheels always dirty with brake dust!!! - 2004 Ford Expedition
    By -

Some added features are improvements, such as the fold down 3rd seat. the fromt wheels get dirty with brake dust in less than 24 hours, so the vehicle never looks clean. the message center in not convenient, nor is the brights-on sensor. i have often had my brights on and didnt know it because of the positioning of the steering wheel

  • CANT CAR WASH - 2004 Ford Expedition
    By -

Beautiful black exp. I love it. Except that everytime I get washed, I have to spend up to half an hour wiping the water/wax that drains from the mirror areas, the door handles, the real window and assorted other collection points. If you dont wipe, it streaks as you drive and looks like hell. I like to keep this baby clean but this is too much trouble. For this reason alone, I would never buy another Ford SUV or truck. Drives me nuts.
