This Year's Model Updates:

Redesigned last year, the Expedition offers few changes for 2004. Option packages and trim levels have been slightly revised, and in some cases, renamed. The XLS replaces last year's XLT Value trim level, while a new NBX trim level replaces the FX4 off-road package. And there is now an XLT Sport trim level. A tire-pressure monitoring system is now standard on XLT, XLT Sport and Eddie Bauer, while the previously standard limited-slip rear axle is now an option.

Pros:
  • Well thought-out interior with plenty of room for passengers and their belongings, handy fold-flat third-row seat, impressive handling for its size, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Needs more power, ride quality suffers on rough roads.

  • An excellent SUV - 2004 Ford Expedition

We have owned Tahoes, Expeditions, Land Cruisers and currently also have an LR3. Our 04 Eddie Bauer Expedition has been an excellent performer. Its comfortable to drive and the ride is way nicer than the previous suspension set up. The additional power offered by 05s would be welcome but the 2 valve motors are adequate. This SUV just eats up the miles on road trips. Ours has been extremely reliable. We have 56,000 miles and I took it to Firestone telling them to replace the brakes...I get a call an hour later saying theres 50% pad left and the rotors look fine.

Reliable car designed for comfort. It is a great way to have a luxury car and durable truck all in one. Great amount of room for large families.

Does great on the things we bought it for (kids, cargo, 4WD in rough weather, comfort, long trips) only a handful of quality-related nitpicks keeping it from making it a truly great experience. Handles like a much smaller vehicle, and large mirrors are second to none. Seats, dash, controls all logical. Could be a touch quieter and a bit smoother on acceleration.

Our Expedition has been nothing but a dream to own. We bought it in March of 2004 and are looking forward to returning it for the new 2007 Expedition. This has been a great suv, has plenty of power under the hood, is incredibly comfy, has sleek and sporty styling ... stands out! (not like the Chevy Tahoes or burbans that are all like a carbon copy of each other). Is very roomy, heater/AC is very strong powerful, Transmission is responsive, braking is impeccable, large rear-view mirrors make it easy for a lane change, fold flat seats allow for lots of cargo room, 3rd rear seat is just as comfy as the rest of the seats. The Expedition is rated very high for safety, and reliability/dependability.

  • Nice, but Really Dirty Wheels - 2004 Ford Expedition

Geez what is up with the brake dust on the front wheels??? Every one I see on the road is the same way. I hope the pads last. Only takes a hundred miles to look like that. Doesnt seem to be like that on other large suvs.

We purchased our Expedition at a Honda Dealership where we had taken our 2001 Honda Passport for an oil change, We had just returned from a fishing trip to the Sierras and were very disappointed with the Passports comfort zone, We purchased the Expedition with 30,000 miles on it it had been traded in by the company who initially purchased it. We installed a trailer hitch and have pulled a 26 ft travel trailer from Orange County California to Havasu, Arizona with no problems. While I would have preferred a little more horsepower I was very pleased in its performance climbing over mountain passes. It never heated up even while running the air conditioner and climbing. Comfort was great.

Get vechile has lots of room, with thrid seat down has great hauling capacity. Fuel mileage does go down if you punch the gas pedel but if you drive normal gas mileage isnot that bad. Overall great vechile would buy another without question.

I am a married woman 47, running my husbands business after he retired this year due to health problems. Our company sells office products and office furniture. After looking at the Lexus GX470 and the Cadillac Escalade, I went with the Expedition hands down. It handles beautifully and will haul anything I can sell, plus our boats! I love sitting high, the back up sensor, the automatic rear seat control and split A/C temp controls in the front seat! My husband and I always fought over the temp...not anymore! I love it!

  • happy customer -- needs improvements - 2004 Ford Expedition

We have had this noise in the car for about 8 months now. We have taken it to the dealership to be looked at (2 different ones) and we have been told that this is normal. I love my Expedition, but I hate the noise it makes EVERY time I crank the car up. We want to trade this one in and get a new one but were told that the next one might or might not make the noise and that every one is different.

I would recommend this SUV to mothers, especially those who have larger families. You can transport 8 individuals with ease, but that would leave you little baggage space. Some of my favorite features are the dashboard alerts. I am forewarned of low fuel, an unbalanced tire pressure, or even low coolant. In addition, the backup safety feature (which can be turned off) comes in handy and provides reassurance that you are not going to hit a child or object.
