This Year's Model Updates:

Redesigned last year, the Expedition offers few changes for 2004. Option packages and trim levels have been slightly revised, and in some cases, renamed. The XLS replaces last year's XLT Value trim level, while a new NBX trim level replaces the FX4 off-road package. And there is now an XLT Sport trim level. A tire-pressure monitoring system is now standard on XLT, XLT Sport and Eddie Bauer, while the previously standard limited-slip rear axle is now an option.

Pros:
  • Well thought-out interior with plenty of room for passengers and their belongings, handy fold-flat third-row seat, impressive handling for its size, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Needs more power, ride quality suffers on rough roads.

  • Not a Bad full size SUV - 2004 Ford Expedition

I purchased my 2004 Expedition on June 27, 2007. The evening I drove it home, I heard a noise coming from the rear. I own a mobile automotive repair business so I was checking the truck out. To make a long story short, the rear needed to be completely rebuilt. The problem was it was bought from a Chevy dealer so after 3 dealers, it ended up at a Lincoln/Mercury dealer and this process took 8 days. Otherwise, it drives great and I love the vehicle.

Just completed 1 year of ownership. Bought it with 37k and now has 49k. Replaced transmission oil with Royal Purple ATF Max Synthetic oil, also am running 5w30 Royal Purple Synthetic Oil in the crank case. A K&N air filter with cold induction has been installed too. My gas mileage went from mid 15s to mid 17s overnight. On the highway cruising 68mph its around 19mpg. We love the room, the 4x4 and ground clearance is tops here in Michigan too. Our only problem weve had is a rear axle whine that is a common on 03 to 06 Expeditions. The 5.4L pulls strong and runs best on premium fuel. With 4 growing kids this Expedition will be with us for a long time coming.

This vehicle has been excellent for my family of 5. It is comfortable and roomy, which is great on long trips. I have not had any problems with it except for squeaky brakes. The gas mileage is awful though. I am only getting between 13-14 MPG in town and between 18-19 MPG on highway. I guess that is to be expected from an SUV this size. Ford needs to improve the fuel economy and this vehicle would be almost perfect.

Brake dust MAJOR problem with this truck, and Ford will do nothing about it.

POSITIVES: Great room for a family of 4 or 5. Plenty of luggage room for those long family trips. Eddie Bauers look great with the gold underpackage with pretty much any body color. NEGATIVES: Whats up with the brake dust? Wow, lets not skimp on quality brake pads. Also, middle seat in second row should recline with outside passenger seats. Third row seating leather has come unattached and not sure how to have it fixed. Looks crappy like that. Gas mileage is garbage but what can you expect from that large of a vehicle. The a/c fan inside the dash makes a light squealing sounds periodically and Im sure Ford wont hear it to fix it.

Took the truck with a lease and traded my 91 Bronco in for it with 2500 down. Got kinda hammered with the payments but I needed soemthing new and something that had lots of space inside since I have a large family of 5 to move around. Truck runs really well and handles snow as well as can be expected. It sometimes wants to bring the backend around when turning in the snow but I think this is due to the length and me driving a Bronco for all the years I did. Just gotta get used to it. Gas mileage is pretty low, 28 gallon tank and I get about 260 miles to the tank. Better than my Bronco so I enjoy it. LOL Overall a nice truck

  • Could Be Better Customer Service - 2004 Ford Expedition

I had a Chevy Suburban for 10 years and loved it. Purchased a nearly new 2000 Ford Expedition, and missed the cargo room and the third passenger seating right away! We test drove and searched for the right vehicle for 5 months!! I was going back to the Chevy Suburban or Tahoe and realized the brakes have not been impvoved, as the Ford Brakes stop on a dime! No spongy feel! I also liked the idea of having my cargo room when needed, and my third passenger seating for my family who are 62" and need the leg and head room to ride comfortably! Excellent selling point for Ford as Chevy has yet to address those issues.
