This Year's Model Updates:

Redesigned last year, the Expedition offers few changes for 2004. Option packages and trim levels have been slightly revised, and in some cases, renamed. The XLS replaces last year's XLT Value trim level, while a new NBX trim level replaces the FX4 off-road package. And there is now an XLT Sport trim level. A tire-pressure monitoring system is now standard on XLT, XLT Sport and Eddie Bauer, while the previously standard limited-slip rear axle is now an option.

Pros:
  • Well thought-out interior with plenty of room for passengers and their belongings, handy fold-flat third-row seat, impressive handling for its size, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Needs more power, ride quality suffers on rough roads.

When I purchased my vehicle, I hoped to receive and stylish, comfortable and innovative vehicle. Im happy to say that my new Expedition is that and more.I love the way it handles the road and roomy interior design. Although it is not fuel efficient, the positives has surpassed all the negatives.

Solid feel and excellent ride. Wheels picked up/showed break dust but fixed with the addition of Kleenwheels. Gas mileage is a little better than expected (18.5 Hwy & 15.2 Local). Makes long trips easy

I recently owned a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer, which to date was the best vehicle I have ever driven, which inludes a fleet of new vehicles over the years. However, this Expedition ranks up there as one of the most best vehicles I have ever driven. It has everything I need and want in a full size SUV, perfect for my growing family. I havnt driven the 4.6L V8 for the Expedition, the 5.4L has plenty of power. The 4.6L V8 in the Mountaineer was EXTREMELY powerful for that small size SUV, but I was hesitant in getting the smaller V8 for the much larger Expedition. No complaints here.

Ive always owned GMC suburbans or Yukons. without a doubt this is the best of the lot for large SUVs.

Have 7K miles on it, 4K in last two weeks from NE to FLA and back. Had luggage rack full of luggage, kids had back two rows, and we came back with a carrier on the hitch. Nice ride, ok mileage considering, added weight. Carrying stuff doesnt seem to effect it, even weight on the hitch. Used only 1/3 of a quart in 4K miles, oil stayed clean. Got 14.5-16 mpg @ 75 mph. A few panic stops were fast and straight. Min tire wear, some brake dust.

New Vehicle. The brake dust is terrible. You would think Ford would offer an attractive "Chrome" wheel for their top of the line Bauer model. The gas milage could be better though the power is ok. My 99 Mountaineer had a much nicer message center. This is a nice truck but the design people missed the mark on the message center and wheels.

The Expedition was the only choice for our family in the large SUVs class. Compared to the Tahoe, the interior is considerably more friendly and more useful. Power compared to the others seems to be very simial although each writed seems to think it is underpowerd, we dont seem to think it is. Fuel economy observed so far is 14 city 17 hwy. Interior looks and feels great without the "cheap" looks as in some of its compeditors.
