This Year's Model Updates:

Redesigned last year, the Expedition offers few changes for 2004. Option packages and trim levels have been slightly revised, and in some cases, renamed. The XLS replaces last year's XLT Value trim level, while a new NBX trim level replaces the FX4 off-road package. And there is now an XLT Sport trim level. A tire-pressure monitoring system is now standard on XLT, XLT Sport and Eddie Bauer, while the previously standard limited-slip rear axle is now an option.

Pros:
  • Well thought-out interior with plenty of room for passengers and their belongings, handy fold-flat third-row seat, impressive handling for its size, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Needs more power, ride quality suffers on rough roads.

  • I love my Expedition - 2004 Ford Expedition

This is the third one. The 2003 is a superior vehicle in handling, ride and towing (even over the 97 & 01). I love my car. I put 167000 miles on the 97, 89000 on the 2001, and plan on driving this one for a long time. I sold the two previous to friends that love them (97 has 215000 now and runs like a new one). No problems with any of these cars.

  • KING of the road - 2004 Ford Expedition

The 2004 expedition eddie bauer is a good car. Other than a few interior mistakes there are no problems. Gas milage is what you would expect in a large suv, and shouldnt matter in the buying process. When the dvd screen is down, forget about using the rear view mirror. When the sunroof is open all the way the noise level is a little high.

  • A must drive - 2004 Ford Expedition

I priced and drove all other large SUVs. The fell of the Expedition on the road was sure footed, unlike the Sequoia. The Tahoe did not have the interior room or the power of the Expedition. The others did not even come close. The Expedition is overall a superior SUV. Test drive all the others fist, just save the best for last.

  • Large and True - 2004 Ford Expedition

Our new Ford Expedition XLT belongs to the Mrs. Several positives: plenty of room for the kids; rides high enough above ground to see everything in front of us, nice big exterior sideview mirrors (defrostable type) help to see the sides and rear of vehicle very clearly; the urban legend is true -- the 2004 Expedition rides like a very big car; power everything is nice too; 4WD works very well. Almost Perfect!!! Gray Ghost

  • Rattle Trap - 2004 Ford Expedition

This is my 3rd Expedition and by far this is the worst in quality. This is a complete rattle trap. We have had mirrors replaced, motors replaced, ash trays replaced, front ent taken off - reassembled and re-installed, insulation added to doors. Molding in rear replaced due to coming apart. Re-tweeked and re-tweeked and still cannot fix the passenger side doors from rattling. When speaking with sales and management at Ford, all I get is "Yours must have been made on either a Monday or Friday". Now Ford says that it could be a hot/cold flexing problem which may not be repaired. After the 5th time in the shop, Ford Corp wont even call me back.

I have owned 3 Expeditions and have nothing bad to say about any of them. I think the styling is outstanding on the outside and the interior is one of the nicest I have experienced. The ride and handling is the best of any vehicle I have experienced. For a large vehicle it handles better and has a tighter turning radius than my wifes Lexus RS 300. For short or long trips is rides as smooth as a luxury car and yet can handle 8 people very comfortably. I am 6 6" and can stretch my legs out full length in the front seat and do not impact other passengers.

  • love it or hate it - 2004 Ford Expedition

i like my new expedition it ride smooth how i know this because i traded my 2001 expedition in for this new sex beast. when i was testing the tahoe i hate the interior expecially the cloth seats they look like they came from a hyundai accent. the ride was smoothe but felt a lot bigger than it "realy was" the third seat is a waset of good cargo. the outside was ok the rims look like cheap hub caps. if you want a tahoe get the 04 it looks more refined and apealing. the expedition is very stylish in every way the third row seat is roomy enough for my 5ft11" tall brother

  • very thirsty, very very - 2004 Ford Expedition

I loved this SUV but I could not get any better than 12 MPG. I was not heavy on the foot. Highway / in-town, did not matter - extremly poor gas milage. I owned a 2001 Expedition XLT with the 4.6L and it did a whole lot better. I thought the 03 would come close, not even. The estimated MPG that Ford puts on the sticker is a LIE. I fortunately sold the SUV and did not lose much money. I will make it up with the difference in my Toyota Sienna - that I am waiting for. You do not have to wait for a Ford Expedition - I wonder why!!!
