This Year's Model Updates:

Redesigned last year, the Expedition offers few changes for 2004. Option packages and trim levels have been slightly revised, and in some cases, renamed. The XLS replaces last year's XLT Value trim level, while a new NBX trim level replaces the FX4 off-road package. And there is now an XLT Sport trim level. A tire-pressure monitoring system is now standard on XLT, XLT Sport and Eddie Bauer, while the previously standard limited-slip rear axle is now an option.

Pros:
  • Well thought-out interior with plenty of room for passengers and their belongings, handy fold-flat third-row seat, impressive handling for its size, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Needs more power, ride quality suffers on rough roads.

The only thing I dont like about this model is the steering. It likes to go all over the road unless you have a deathgrip on it. Even small holes or bumps in the road can effect it.

  • Excellent vehicle - 2004 Ford Expedition

I have had the vehicle for two months now. It is roomy, responsive, and fun. Many features optional on other vehicles are standard on Expedition.

  • Third Expedition a disapointment! - 2004 Ford Expedition

The brake dirt on front wheels should have been fixed along time ago! The sunroof sounds like a wind tunnel and has been in for unsuccessful repairs. The instument panel is hard to read and the warning panel is in bad area. This is my third and last expedition. The other two were good cars(1997 & 2000). This thing does not tow like the others either!

  • Treats the Family Right - 2004 Ford Expedition

Solid and dependable. This is great on long trips, which is primarily what it gets used for. Gas mileage...well, its what youd expect for a V8 and what was advertised when we bought it. Plenty of power. I wish the clearance was a couple inches higher because I do take this off-road for camping. No towing issues with 17 boot and trailer. Engine is quiet. Seats 7 with reasonable comfort, though its primarily just ma, pa, & the boy with the 3rd row of seats folded down for luggage. 2nd row of seats folds flat and can fit a few 4x8 sheets of plywood. We hope they improve mileage with future models, because wed consider another.

  • Well designed, but poorly constructed - 2004 Ford Expedition

We purchased this vehicule as a replacement for our Explorer since to accomodate our growing family. The vehicle interior is very well designed to accept the whole family and the load that comes with it. Its comfortable and has very good handling. BUT quality of the vehicle is mediocre: tinted windows appear somewhat dirty; windows are noisy when sliding up or down, various noises, windshield wipers that wont wipe, etc. Some problems have been fixed, and for the others, well, neither Ford nor dealer wants to help despite obvious problems confirmed by 3rd- party.

  • An Excellent Change - 2004 Ford Expedition

  • Excellent Surprise - 2004 Ford Expedition

This vehicle has been an excellent surprise. It is comfortable is every seating position, quiet and totally reliable. The surprise is that it consistently gets over 20 mpg in highway travel. As a daily driver in town it drops to 16+. The secret is in keeping the tires at 34 or 35 psi. The ride is not soft, but the handling is responsive. I also find that, though no dragster, it is not a slouch. I get to check it out in the home city of the X5 that is rated so highly. This machine is more comfortable, has more room, hauls and pulls more and has more power than the X5. Now, if it would just keep the resale value....

  • Love It! - 2004 Ford Expedition

I especially like the larger mirrors- handy when towing our Holiday Rambler or my boat. The 4WD with the advancetrac is surefooted on the way to the slopes, something our autoride-equipped Suburban was not. Much better interior quality than my sisters 2000 EB Expy 4X4

I love my Expedition. I had been driving a Ford F250 or F350 for over 15 years when I decided I wanted something a little more like a car. I could not have picked a nicer, sweeter vehicle. I bought a 2 horse Sundowner trailer to pull behind it. It makes for a really nice rig.

  • Wheres the Quality and Reliability? - 2004 Ford Expedition
    By -

I traded in my 1997 Expedition for a new 2004 Eddie Bauer Expedition because of all of the improvements. While the new features and styling are great the build quality and reliability are terrible! In 2 years the differential has been rebuilt twice, the battery failed, one window motor failed, comfort seats (heat & a/c) failed, passenger mirror motor failed and has more rattles that a daycare. Now Ive been told that the front brake rotors need to replaced because they are too thin at 20K! I called Ford and they said that they were not under warranty but the replacements had been "redesigned" to resolve this problem. They admitted that this was a design defect but it would not be covered or pro-rated.
