This Year's Model Updates:

The 2004 Ford Escape remains largely unchanged although the price has been lowered on the plush Limited model and certain appearance packages are now available on lower trim levels which, in effect, reduce the final price. Also, Chrome Yellow is no longer a color choice. To eliminate confusion, trim levels and option packages have been consolidated.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6, large cargo capacity, comfortable interior, carlike handling.
Cons:
  • Weak standard four-cylinder engine, bland interior design, small gas tank size limits range.

  • I Love My Escape! - 2004 Ford Escape

Ive had my Escape for about 7 months now and I love it! We had an Aerostar mini-van and a 150 pick-up prior. My husband and I decided to buy new vehicles again and living in Colorado, 4X4s are the way to go. He upgraded his truck to a 250 4X4 V10 but I wanted something with better fuel economy than that, so after many reviews and discussions, the Escape won. Its excellent for work, errands and going into the mountains. It has all the space I need for shopping too! I would definately recommend the Escape to anyone. The Escape is another Ford product that tops the list on smaller suvs and keeps the Ford name at its best and something to be proud of!

  • So Far So Good - 2004 Ford Escape

Ive put 56,000 miles on mine the 2.5 years Ive owned it, and have required only scheduled maintenance, new tires, and brake pad replacement. I think its a great for an all-around small utility, not luxury, SUV. I have front wheel drive model, does great in snow. For what I needed and could afford, a pretty good buy. Id prefer another Honda, but couldnt afford the used ones. I hope I get at least 200,000 miles out of it.

The 2004 Ford Escape is a one-of-a- kind SUV. very reliable and fun to drive. Very powerful V6 with a great 2.4/1 4x4 system. Very Loud and well built audio system. Smooth ride and great engine preformance.

My first SUV and am very happy with the Escape. The automatic 4WD is easy for my wife to use on those snowy Northeast days. Power is more than adequate, interior and exterior design is excellent as well as build quality. Very fun to drive and is a good vehicle for those not wanting or cant afford the bigger trucks. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

  • not worth the money - 2004 Ford Escape

The problems I have with this vehicle are... the windows always have grit in them, the sun visor always comes off the clip, the car is the most uncomfortable vehicle to take road trips in, and the overall quality of the vehicle is just not what I expected for the money I paid. I would not buy another one. I guess this is what I get for straying from Honda.

Bought this car brand new and have never had any problems, just regular maintenance, still going strong. Hope to get a lot more miles out of the car, now has 87,000 miles, maybe get 200,000?

I love my escape. I have only had it one week, but I love it. I have test drove many but this one takes the cake. It is fun to drive, roomy and very comfortable.

  • Escape is Great - 2004 Ford Escape

I really love this smaller version SUV. It has given me the amentities i need in an SUV for storage, etc.. and the stereo/comfort/quality/drive that I like in a solid vehicle.

  • Same problem for 4 years now - 2004 Ford Escape

This is a fun vehicle to drive. It has a low maintenence record. I have had a intermittent problem since I have owned it. I am the only owner of this vehicle. It has occasionally shut off when shifting to reverse from another gear. It occasionally shuts off while driving down the road. It starts back up when you restart it. It did this under warranty. It first did it 3 days after owning it. The dealership has never diagnosed the problem. This is a major safety issue which is making me question Fords quality control and service practices. No need to buy an extended warranty with this one. They cannot fix it while its under factory warranty. Fun to drive when it does not do this.
