  • Vibration at Highway Speeds - 2006 Ford Escape

Love the style and size and gas efficiency, but on the drive home from the dealer I noticed a vibration at 55mph - drove for about a month (thinking break in) and it never went away. Took to dealer and they "road force balanced" the tires - this appeared to hold for about 20 miles. Its back - apparently there are a few others who have experienced this (NHTSA reports and Usenet). No specific remedy! I will be going back to the dealer and giving them their 3 tries to fix - then its the lemon law. Other than the vibration - I love the little SUV. I test drove a couple of Escape rental cars and did not experience the vibration in those cars.

Basically, it is a fine SUV except when the speed reaches 60 MPH. Then an intermittent vibration starts. By 80 MPH it feels like the rear tires are totally out of balance...then it quits...then it starts again. Have been unable to find the reason even after all tires were replaced and rebalanced.

I really am amazed at my delight of my Escape. From reports I thought that the Escape was not going to be a very good investment ... thankfully I decided for myself. It is very comfortable and easy to handle. It is a blast to drive. And I get 23 miles to the gallon. It seats 5 comfortably with a lot of leg room. I definitely recommend the Ford Escape to everyone.

I traded in my 01 Civic for an 06 Escape and I could not be happier. This is the first car that I have bought that I was completely in love with. I love the style of the inside and outside and I love the handling. I swear mine handles like a sedan, especially when taking turns. Im single so I dont need a lot of room, but I can fit so much in my car. In my Honda, I couldnt even fit my nieces stroller in my truck. With my Escape, I can fit my nieces stroller, diaper bag, walker and high chair with room to spare, and of course my niece. I can also fit 4 passengers comfortably, which I cant say my Honda did. I thought the gas mileage would be an issue but its not, great on mileage.

I had driven the Mariner & Escape, & seriously considered the Escape. 3 versions of this platform are manufactured in Kansas City, the 3rd being the Mazda Tribute. Use Edmunds & compare these two vehicles before you buy. They are 95% identical but those few percentage points really could make a difference for you as it did for me. Im a Ford fan, I really like this vehicle & I got a base unit, which had everything I wanted, out the door for $14,900. Im very pleased!

Hi, Im Harvey from Texas. I love driving my new Ford Escape. It has very good handling and is very easy to control. Not to mention its very comfortable as well. My wife and I love it because is looks like a small 4x4. In other words it looks like it could go off roading or something. Oh, and wow! the Ford Escape is really great on gas unlike the last vehicle I had. It has really saved me hundreds of dollars in just a couple of months.

My family and I really love our new Escape. Gas mileage is wonderful averaging about 25 mpg with mostly city driving! And its 4X4! Plenty of power with the manual trans. Would like to see more options available with the 5 speed. i.e. fog light, power seat, sunroof, 6 disc privacy glass.

I picked up a base model Escape for $15,400 before tax and title and couldnt be more satisfied. I have a city/highway commute and average 29+mpg. Plenty of room in the back for hockey equipment and the split foldown seat allows for the sticks to lay flat without using up the whole second row of seating. For a 4 cylinder there is decent acceleration even with the A/C running. Why would anyone buy a car when they can get one of these?

I drive 50 miles a day and my Escape is wonderful. I has a cool sporty growl and is a practical mom bus. Mud? No, problem. I wish I had a lumbar support but otherwise my next car will most likely be another Escape just fancier.

  • More than I expected - 2006 Ford Escape
    By -

Looked at small AWD vehicles and picked the Escape based on ride, looks and mileage. In the four months we have driven the Escape it has done everything I had hoped for and more. We saved on gas usage by half over our other vehicles and other than oil changes it has not seen the dealer for any reason. The fit and finish on the car was perfect and even with the four cylinder the performance has been great.
