Overview & Reviews
The Escape is Ford's new SUV. Smaller in size than the Explorer (and dwarfed by an Excursion), the 2001 Ford Escape competes in the same class as the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. Its main calling cards are an optional V6 engine and a large interior.
- Strong V6 engine, plenty of interior space, car-like road manners.
- Lacks the off-road capability of a truck-based SUV, barely adequate base engine, unknown reliability.

01 Escape - 2001 Ford Escape
By Tazdog - August 14 - 2:00 amVehicle is used mostly for around town commuting but recently took it on a long trip(2600 miles). Was very impressed with the performance, comfort and the fuel economy, 24.5 mpg. There was plenty of power for passing and there was no drop off going up hills(6 cyl). Four adults and luggage fit very nicely.

Sporty & Fun, Cant Wait for the Hybrid - 2001 Ford Escape
By oldhouse93 - August 11 - 10:00 amI had an absolute blast with this new mini-SUV. Power, cornering, roominess and it looks different on the road. My main problem with this vehical is the stiff unforgiving seats. You cant sit in them for more than about 100 miles before you have to get out and rest for an extended period. My rear was really hurting. It also took expressway pavement joints harshly, too much so for my liking. I cant wait for the hybrid fuel Escape to come out in late 2003.

best all around small suv - 2001 Ford Escape
By tdr - April 24 - 10:00 amPulling power and handling are the tops with this small suv, in fact out performs alot of mid size suvs in this area. Surprising interior room. Have pulled 18 tandem axle trailer with 3 four wheelers; no problem even in the Arkansas Ozarks.

2 Years +40,000 Miles - 2001 Ford Escape
By Kevin Kalamazoo - July 17 - 2:00 am2001 XLT with everything, 2 yrs with plus 40,000 miles, mostly highway, but yes thats where its most comfortable. Very strong highway performance with low RPM, great stabilty, V6 is strong & quick (not fast). Original equipment Firestone Tires not a concern or any problem. However, with new Michelin Cross Terain, wow what a difference, very, very comfortable soft & quiet ride. Living in West Michigan (Kalamazoo), 4x4 ability required 3-5 a season, very secure footing when needed the most.

It keeps getting better - 2001 Ford Escape
By - February 2 - 10:00 amWhen I first bought my Escape I was very impressed with the performance of the V6 engine. I while back I used to have a Mustang GT and the Escape is as much fun to drive plus gives me all the room I needed for a family of 5. After having it for a year I decided to make it even more fun. I added an S&B free flow air cleaner and a Superchips performace chip. Now the thing flies. You have to ease off the gas to keep the tires from spinning. I plan to add a Borla exhaust next. It is extremely light for an SUV and has more than enough power for most people. If you are considering getting the Escape I would definitely recommend it.
