Overview & Reviews
The 2004 Ford Escape remains largely unchanged although the price has been lowered on the plush Limited model and certain appearance packages are now available on lower trim levels which, in effect, reduce the final price. Also, Chrome Yellow is no longer a color choice. To eliminate confusion, trim levels and option packages have been consolidated.
- Powerful V6, large cargo capacity, comfortable interior, carlike handling.
- Weak standard four-cylinder engine, bland interior design, small gas tank size limits range.

Clifford the Escape - 2004 Ford Escape
By ACEMARKEY - August 26 - 2:00 amWe have TWO! Named my Escape Clifford. Guess what color it is? I love this car, looove, there arent enough positive words. Much better mileage than what the sticker says. Peppy, roomy. Handles great in snow. A bit of wind noise at high speeds(80mph) makes it difficult to listen to the excellent cd player (single). Please follow the dealer maintenance record religiously. There have been a few problems, but the dealer fixed. Dont bother with the dealers ext. warranty Call Ford Mo Co yourself and ask them specifically for their own. Dealer will try to sell you an aftermarketinsisting it is Fords. After 2 dealers, 3 cars we learned the hard way.

Love It! - 2004 Ford Escape
By Jim in MD - August 22 - 2:00 amVery nice vehicle overall. I went from a compact sedan to the Escape. Overall driving experience took a bit of getting used to. But I think this is a good choice for anyone looking for something thats "larger than normal" but not a road tank. The individual who compared this FWD Escape with the Jeep Liberty doesnt understand that FWD does not = 4WD. There IS a 4WD version available. So if thats what you need then maybe you should have asked your company to purcase that. And I can report that my doors have not fallen off, contrary to another reviewers statements. Indeed, Ive had no build defect/service issues at all.

Decided best of comparable models - 2004 Ford Escape
By M2004 - August 19 - 2:00 amAfter much research between the Escape, Liberty, and CR-V, Ford seemed to offer the best features and reviews amongst the three. ABS, Gas mileage, and mechanical performance were my priorities I test drove the Liberty first, then the Escape. I knew that the Escape would perform better for city driving, and if that is what you are going to use the vehicle for mainly, stick with Ford. The seats take some getting used to, though there are a number of adjustment options. Overall, as a first time SUV, the Escape is great and is a good transition between a coupe/small sedan and truck. The car overall feels pretty strong.

Fits me - 2004 Ford Escape
By rcadwell - August 17 - 2:00 amthis is my first SUV. I like the compactness of it, yet lots of storage. Feels good on the road, although, it does feel bumps more than Im use to. The V6 is the only way to go for get up and go. I love the way the drivers and passenger seats feel on my back..very supportive. Gas mileage is something to get use to. But Ill sacrifice a bit for the feel and cargo capablities of this car. Highly recommend it.

does its job - 2004 Ford Escape
By van to escape - July 28 - 2:00 amIve had my 2004 escape since last september. It drove very well through a lot of snow this past winter. I am a little disappointed with the gas milage gettin 18 mpg up until 10000 miles and now it seems to be staying at 20 mpg. This is with a lot of city driving. The only problem Ive had only happened a couple of times. When trying to start the car, if it did not start on the first key turn I had to pump the gas to get it started. Overall I am happy with the car. The drivers seat is very uncomfortable on long drives but it is used mostly to work and back and to shuttle the kids. My husband doesnt like riding in it because of the small size.

2004 Escape - 2004 Ford Escape
By Linda M - July 21 - 2:00 amHad a 2002 Escape. My daughter was broadsided, and the vehicle was totaled, but she had no injuries thanks to the side air bags. Loved the styling, dependability and price of the Escape, so we bought a 2004.

love it! - 2004 Ford Escape
By jbosig - July 5 - 2:00 amI had a 95 4X4 blazer that had to go. I researched 16 different SUVs of this size and/or compatability. I really wanted bigger but needed to stay under 30K. I have 2boys and 2Labs so I needed a rugged vehicle that would wear well. The CRV, Xterra, Rodeo, Montero, and Blazer couldnt even compare. few flaws but Fordsll never be perfect, otherwise itd be a Dodge!

04 escape - 2004 Ford Escape
By mrak - June 18 - 2:00 amEnjoy the interior space and comfort. Have not owned it long enough to judge overall reliability. My favorite part is that it is nice to ride up higher than in a car.
