This Year's Model Updates:

The 2004 Ford Escape remains largely unchanged although the price has been lowered on the plush Limited model and certain appearance packages are now available on lower trim levels which, in effect, reduce the final price. Also, Chrome Yellow is no longer a color choice. To eliminate confusion, trim levels and option packages have been consolidated.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6, large cargo capacity, comfortable interior, carlike handling.
Cons:
  • Weak standard four-cylinder engine, bland interior design, small gas tank size limits range.

  • Solid and FUN - 2004 Ford Escape

I picked up a 2004 Escape XLT after test driving a CRV and Liberty. Four words - I love this vehicle!! The CRV is about the same in dimensions however feels cramped and has a terrible 4WD system. The Liberty is too boxy the ride is bumpy and the fuel mileage is terrible. The Escape feels solid is very quick for an SUV, engine sounds throaty, and is extremely comfortable! The controls are logically placed, the seats fold completely flat and the optioned 235 tires along with the 4WD system sticks to snow like dry pavement. The moonroof is large and the cabin feels very spacious unlike the CRV and Liberty. You cant go wrong with this SUV!!!

I have had my Escape for the last six months with some 11000 milesw on the odometer. It is a very good car for two senior citizens. Easy to enter and quick on the freeway. We could just contain enough equipment for three months in Florida. We could easily climb western mountains in the rockies as well.Themilage on the west was 27 mpg.

I have a 2004 Escape Limited FWD with Luxury Comfort Package(heated seats and mirrors, upgraded audio and reverse sensors) and Moonroof. This car is a blast to drive. When you floor it from a stop the tires squeal - its got plenty of power! Of course my driving style may be part of why the FE is not as good as I might like: Im getting just under 20MPG. I love the exterior looks and styling. I also drove the CRV, Santa Fe and Liberty and found none could compare to this combination of luxury and fun to drive.

I love the way it looks and the way it handles. I feel very safe behind the wheel of my Escape and have been very pleased so far. The only problem I can think of, is that the gas tank is too small. I understand that SUVs arent that great on mileage, but if the tank was larger, I wouldnt feel like Im at the gas station every 3,4 days. Other than that...I LOVE IT!

I haVE ALWAYS had sport passenger cars so this was all new to me. I love driving up higher on the road now, and the handling on this SUV is great. It rides smooth, handles nicely. I am very satisfied with the truck and now I know I will never drive a passenger car ever again.

Picked up my 2004 Escape Limited (silver exterior, black interior) in Sept. 2003 and it has been a great vehicle thus far. The ride is smooth and I really feel connected to the road while I am driving. A nice, classy design to boot. The leather interior is top-notch, and the MACH stereo system is far and away better than my brothers stereo on his 2003 Eddie Bauer Explorer. Love the heated seats!
