This Year's Model Updates:

The 2004 Ford Escape remains largely unchanged although the price has been lowered on the plush Limited model and certain appearance packages are now available on lower trim levels which, in effect, reduce the final price. Also, Chrome Yellow is no longer a color choice. To eliminate confusion, trim levels and option packages have been consolidated.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6, large cargo capacity, comfortable interior, carlike handling.
Cons:
  • Weak standard four-cylinder engine, bland interior design, small gas tank size limits range.

  • Last Ford Ill ever buy - 2004 Ford Escape

I bought a 2003 New Ford Escape in Virginia Beach at Beach Ford.It was a nightmare. Very poor service and very rude service managers. Could not get a call back from the sales manager or general manager (I paid cash for the car). Milage is way below what it is supposed to be. Ford Corp would do nothing, Beach Ford would do Nothing. It got 14 miles per gallon the first year and has improved to a whopping 20 or so the next year. I have been very disappointed in the vehicle, dealership and Ford Corp. The passenger door would not close and the windshield leaked when I bought the car. Both Beach Ford and the national Ford did very little.

  • Liberty vs Escape-no comparison - 2004 Ford Escape

I received an Escape XLT as a company vehicle and was highly disappointed! It is more like a minivan than an SUV! The vehicle has a weak 4WD, boring and cheap looking interior, and does not seem sturdy. My new Jeep Liberty Limited on the other hand, has a nice looking leather and chrome interior, sturdy ride with a strong 4WD and is a pleasure to drive. There is absolutely NO COMPARISON! I dont know why the Escape is getting good reviews? It is a minivan with 4WD!

  • If your Escape Stalls after 36000 - 2004 Ford Escape

Stalled Once. Good thing it was under warranty. Im friends with the service/finance manager where i purchase my Escape.. Ford has an open TSB about this problem.. They tell me this problem happens with 02,03, Windstars and Tribute.. If your Vehical stalls after 36000, even with fords best extended service plan, YOU will pay for repairs. Ford and Easy Care, if thats whos providing you the warranty, considers the replacement 6 items on your engine a upgrade not a failure, so therefore ford and your warranty company will not cover this. Ford is not taking responsiblity for bad workmanship. Other then that, its a nice SUV.

  • Good Gas Mileage? - 2004 Ford Escape
    By -

I like my Escape on all fronts except for one area. Fuel Mileage! No matter how lightly I use the accelerator and how easy to stop I make, the best it manages to get is 21 MPG. For all of the technology available this vehicle should get almost 28mpg. If Honda can build a 250hp V-6 for the Saturn VUE and it gets 28-30 mpg why cant Ford build an engine that gets comparable mileage?
