Need more luxury when you Escape? For 2003, Ford will offer a new Limited edition that includes body-color trim, polished aluminum wheels, a reverse sensing system, a Mach audio system with six-disc CD changer, heated front seats and sideview mirrors, premium leather seats, front side airbags and an autodimming rearview mirror. The XLT can also be upgraded this year with an appearance package that includes special wheels, side step bars and body-color exterior trim. For all 2003 Ford Escapes, there are upgraded interior materials and fabrics, an available two-tone cabin color scheme, illuminated power window and lock switches and three new colors. Finally, the XLS 4WD with a four-cylinder engine and a manual transmission is dropped for 2003.

Cons:
  • Weak standard four-cylinder engine, small gas tank size limits range.

i have always owned a car up intil my wife and I decided that we need a vehicle for the future family we were planning. I was looking at other vehicles but she choose the escape. She went and test drove it and then she talked to some sales people. She took me to the dealership and I drove it I loved it and now I am the proud owner of an escape. I was not much of a ford man but owning this has changed my opion of fords.

  • Great SUV, poor fuel economy - 2003 Ford Escape

I love everything about it except for the poor gas mileage -- I get about 15 in highway driving. I got better mileage in my Explorer which I traded on this.

Exterior is delightful to look at, (black on black. only fault is the accumulation of brake dust, and a desire to have 18" rims instead of factory 16". On the interior, the MP3 player is a absolute joy on a road trip. The only interior fault is the mechanical knob on the seat that adjust the lumbar support, it has to be adjusted by a passenger if you dont get it where your want it before you begin traveling, and turning it seems to last for an eternity before one feels a result. For the most part this is the best small SUV on the market in my opinion.

I spent major time looking and test driving Hyundai , Honda , Mazda etc. and reading reviews on all of them including Ford Escape. This smaller midsize SUV is about the very best "bang for the buck" . I used to have a Ford Explorer so let me tell you guys , this Escape is NO ladies SUV. Great ride , vision , mileage and plenty of power to tow my 18 foot LUND boat!

bought the sunshine yellow with leather, sun roof, etc. what a great vehicle & easy to find in the parking lot!

  • Failed transmission at 60000 miles - 2003 Ford Escape
    By -

The vehicle is OK, but the automatic transmission had to be replaced at 60000 miles of normal use (at a cost of $2600). Is this another of the now- famous Ford transmission problems? I thought that by now this problem would be solved. However, it obviously isnt... Also, I wouldnt recommend buying a 2WD with the six cylinder: it consistently smokes the front wheels if you press the accelerator too hard. The 4WD wont have this problem. Alternatively, the 4-cylinder engine should be made available with an auto transmission.
