This Year's Model Updates:

Additional standard equipment makes the 2002 Ford Escape an even better value. XLS models get a dual-media cassette/CD stereo, while XLT adds a V6 engine, privacy glass, power driver seat and an in-dash six-CD changer. New Sport packages also debut. The XLS Sport includes 15-inch alloy wheels with larger tires, side-step bars, Sport-embroidered floor mats and dark tinted privacy glass. The XLT Sport, new for 2002, provides, in addition to XLS Sport equipment, a special No Boundaries roof rack system and unique 16-inch alloy wheels with meatier rubber. Four new colors are also available.

Pros:
  • Strong V6 engine, comfortable cabin, plenty of cargo space, car-like road manners.
Cons:
  • Lacks the off-road capability of a truck-based SUV, barely adequate base engine, shoddy build quality, unimpressive interior materials.

This is the best of both worlds!!! I drive mostly in the city, congestion, tight parking, etc... The Escape drives, and handles well, performs well too! Gas milage only about 18 (CITY) I did get 24 (HIGHWAY) ONE time! This vehicle has never been back for service, other than oil change, It is even better than the 2001, that I had, that was wrecked with 16K on it! My only complaints are small... I would like to see a lighted ignition switch, (Its hard to find at night) and I would like a little better ride, like the NEW Explorer! Definately the MOST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK SUV (in my opinion)

Brand new car. Ran into a snowstorm all the way from Ky to Chicago. Saw at least 50 cars in ditches but not us. A great, stable car.

  • Best option out there - 2002 Ford Escape

I just completed 6 months and 7500 miles with my Escape, and I still think its the best of the small SUVs. The ride is firm but not "truck-like" and the acceleration and handling are superb. I have found no defects and needed no repairs. I had an Explorer a few years back that turned out to be pretty crappy, so I was a bit concerned with buying another Ford. So far, I have been very pleased with the decision.

  • good vehicle for the money - 2002 Ford Escape

After shopping for 3 months and reviewing all of the SUVs in this class, I decided that relaibility, power, and affordability was the route to go. The Escape is not as fancy as the Tribute( same exact Mazda engine) or the CR-V, or the Santa Fe but for the money its the best in its class. I think Fords only shortcoming with the Escape was they should have spent a little more money with the build quality and intierior- I personally would have paid for it. Overall I would suggest this SUV to anyone in the market- the 6cyl. 3.0 201hp- 4 dr.

the ignition is placed really low on the steering column. it would be nice if it was in some way illuminated. you really really take a while to learn where to put the key even in daylight... youll hit above where the key goes about 90 percent of the time. other than that its fantastic.

  • My Great Escape - 2002 Ford Escape

An SUV that responds like a car. Had one for 10 mths with 10K miles. Only in the dealer once for a/c issue and a clunking sound. No problems eversince. Escape drives great, excellent 0 to 50mph, decent MPG. Its nimble and manuverable. Interior is roomy but "plasticky" but works for me with the kids. Exterior design is handsome and clean. Plastic body armor avoids dings. CRVs and RAVs are just too small and severely underpowered. My Escape is sometimes mistaken for an Explorer and thats fine with me.

I love it. The only thing I could ask for would be more comfortable seats. Truly a great buy.

  • Lacks Comfort - 2002 Ford Escape
    By -

This vehicle does not have the comfort level to go with its price. A four hour drive in this vehicle amounts to tortore.

  • Love my Esacpe - 2002 Ford Escape

We have 7000 miles on our 2002 Escape, and have enjoyed putting every mile on it. Love the height of the seats, and the firmness.
