Overview & Reviews
The 2004 Ford Escape remains largely unchanged although the price has been lowered on the plush Limited model and certain appearance packages are now available on lower trim levels which, in effect, reduce the final price. Also, Chrome Yellow is no longer a color choice. To eliminate confusion, trim levels and option packages have been consolidated.
- Powerful V6, large cargo capacity, comfortable interior, carlike handling.
- Weak standard four-cylinder engine, bland interior design, small gas tank size limits range.

My Second Escape! - 2004 Ford Escape
By Florencio - May 9 - 2:00 amI bought a red XLT in June of 2001, and I loved it so much, that I traded it in for a new 2004 black Limited with the black leather interior and moonroof. I only wish I could have purchased the heated seats, maybe next time!

Comfortable and peppy - 2004 Ford Escape
By dennisgo - March 26 - 2:00 amThis is very car-like small truck. It could have included some small conveniences such as: compass, trip computer, overhead console,12V outlet in the rear. I would recommend getting the lumbar support as the driver seat will do a number on your back on long trips.

Nice small family SUV - 2004 Ford Escape
By Mindy - March 23 - 8:51 pmI purchased my Escape in August 2003 and I have had no problems with it. I really like the car, but I feel it is more of a family vehicle. I have heard the front side air bags make it much safer, so I would recommend them. (Mine has them, but I had to special order it). I am considering selling mine in the near future to buy a New Beetle, which I owned before the Escape. Overall, great car, not too tall for short people! :)

XLT....great SUV - 2004 Ford Escape
By Tammi - February 18 - 2:00 amHandles very well, drives smooth. The SUV is stylish and has lots of room yet not as bulky as other SUV types. The only downfall I have is the small gas tank. But the I am very pleased with the XLT, it actually handles better then my car!

A lemon right off the lot - 2004 Ford Escape
By John - February 8 - 3:09 amI bought a new, left over 2004 Escape. Within two hours of leaving the dealer the accelerator would not release and I found myself going 85 mph on the highway with the speed increasing. I managed to put it into neutral and pull over to the side with the engine racing. A tow truck was called and took me and the car back to the dealer. I found out Ford Motor Company had recalled 2002 through 2004 Escapes to fix accelerator problems, but my dealer had failed to fix it before selling it to me. He is claiming ice build up was the problem, not the accelerator cable. Either way, a car that dangerous should not be on the road.

Dont buy this car - 2004 Ford Escape
By Teena - January 6 - 2:00 amIve had my Escape in the shop 6 times in the first two months that Ive owned it! Ive had problems with the starter on 3 occasions. The radio, after 6 service visits, loses channels. The service dept found the radio defective, the antennae defective and a loose wire in the starter. Fuel economy is horrible. Even with driving it conservatively, It only gets 15 mpg.
