This Year's Model Updates:

The 2004 Ford Escape remains largely unchanged although the price has been lowered on the plush Limited model and certain appearance packages are now available on lower trim levels which, in effect, reduce the final price. Also, Chrome Yellow is no longer a color choice. To eliminate confusion, trim levels and option packages have been consolidated.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6, large cargo capacity, comfortable interior, carlike handling.
Cons:
  • Weak standard four-cylinder engine, bland interior design, small gas tank size limits range.

I did a lot of research before I chose the Escape and am delighted with this vehicle. It easily offers the best performance in its class. Acceleration and handling can both be described as "quick". I really like the interior, it feels spacious and airy. Im glad I didnt buy one in its first year (5 recalls?) but at this point I have total confidence it will last a long time. And being a Ford, where everything seems to be on a fire sale, you cant beat the price. Mine listed at $27,715 with leather, mach stereo, moonroof, tow package, 16" wheels and more. I paid $21,888 AND in the Northwest theyre even throwing in two free SEASON ski passes!

I love my new escape. It is the first SUV I have owned and I doubt I will own anything except an SUV from now on.I was surprised how great it handles. I thought it would feel like driving a truck and would be a rough ride, however it is a very smooth and comfortable.

After renting a couple Escapes on trips, I was totally hooked. The other consideration was a Jeep Liberty, but the Escape gets a LOT better gas mileage and has several features that I prefer.

  • Nice Escape - 2004 Ford Escape

The Ford Escape is a simple SUV compared to the Explorer or the other larger SUVs. It has punch on excelleration and the ride of a mid- priced midsized sedan. The seats fall short behind the knee unlike the Explorer that offers comfort and support to all of the leg. Long trips are comfortable in the beginning but due to the lack of leg support a few hours of driving can be uncomfortable. The stereo system is stock, but is on the high end of Fords audio devices. It has a great sound and 6 disc changer. Climate controls are in a good location. All in all I would get the hybrid version when it comes out.

I was very supprised how on accelration it just takes off ,plenty of power for a V6 .Im getting about 22mpg right now with a little over 1200 miles on it. I had a 2001 explorer before this. I feel the Escape has a better feel and handles very well on turns and parkways.I am a truck driver by trade and have always been in some kind of truck for at least 8hrs a day and feel at home in my Escape.....

  • Love my Escape - 2004 Ford Escape

Although I have only owned my Escape for 30 days, I am in love. The driver seat is so comfortable. As someone with lower back problems, its so nice to sit on a Los Angeles freeway and not have a spasming right hip. The seat is like a comfortable living room chair so there is very little pressure on my back. Kudos to Ford for making a comfortable nice sized SUV

For a first time SUV owner, I was a little scared. But this suv handles curves well with comfort and style. Long drives can be a pain, but with a smooth and a quiet ride, this suv will give you everything you want. Gas mileage is not bad for a 6 cylinder engine.
