This Year's Model Updates:

The Ford Escape continues into 2006 with only minor trim and color changes.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6, large cargo capacity, comfortable interior, carlike handling, optional side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Four-cylinder models feel unrefined at high rpm, so-so interior materials quality.

  • 06 Escape XLT - 2006 Ford Escape

The convenience of the 6 disc in dash CD is great. Plenty of interior room for hauling or keeping passengers comfy. The acceleration is normal even when put into passing mode. The view out the windshield is superb but because of the 3 headrests in the back, viewing behind you can be a little work. Overall Im very pleased with the 06 Escape XLT and have recommended it others.

  • Great 4WD capabilities and fuel economy - 2006 Ford Escape

This SUV drives great compared to every other one Ive driven. Love the fuel economy and the engine has a lot of power for a small inline-4. Lots of interior room for large people (compared to other compact SUVs). Automatically engaged 4WD feels different, but has proven reliable. The only real issue I have is with the initial quality of the Escape. Ive run into 3 different issues that needed to be addressed by the dealership, but they fixed them without charge. In retrospect, two of those were fairly subtle "personal annoyances". Overall Im extremely satisfied.

  • Love it! After shopping for 2 years - 2006 Ford Escape

I wanted a small SUV since the Liberty came out in 2001, but I hated that back swinging door. I loved the Escapes cargo space and when they modified the front lights in 2006, and with Fords Family plan, I just had to buy it at long last. I love it, my big dogs love it and its just the right size! I get compliments on the beautiful Titanium green exterior color, and Im finding that my gas mileage is averaging about 27 mpg; most of my driving is highway miles, so the Hybrid did not fit my bill. I love this car so much!

  • Built to last! - 2006 Ford Escape

Pro: * 4 cylinder engine feels like a V6 * Fit and finish are excellent * Very smooth shifting 5 speed manual transmission * Great factory radio * Good MPG (25.3 average over 4 fill-ups) * ABS standard * No rattles or squeaks * Very easy DIY oil change. Con: * Rear drum brakes * No dual trip odometer * Privacy glass not standard on FWD models * Front discs generate a lot of brake dust. Overall Im 100% satisfied. This is one SUV that truly earns the "Sport" in "Sport Utility Vehicle". I also enjoy the fact that it hold lots of stuff (33 cubic feet with the seats up and 69.2 with the rear seats down).

  • Really fun compact SUV - 2006 Ford Escape
    By -

Weve had our Escape for about a month now and we love it. The 4 cylinder engine is peppy and provides a fun drive but it often needs to down shift when going uphill on the highway. The fuel economy is better than I expected with this being our first SUV (avg. mid 20s). The comfort and ride are amazing and it definitely has a ton of room and cargo area, probably the highest in the class. Cant wait till winter in NH to try out the AWD feature. Highly recommended to anyone in the market.

  • Uncomfortable Seats/Poor Gas Mileage - 2006 Ford Escape
    By -

I have been driving my Escape for 6 months and I just cant escape the fact that the seats are hard as rocks and are very uncomfortable. Ford needs to go back to the drawing board and take some hints from other manufacturers (Honda, Volvo). The only saving grace is that Im in my vehicle for a few minutes a day (2 mile commute). Trips of an hour or more and Im miserable. Just for the record I bought a Limited with every option (premium leather seats w/ heat). The gas mileage is poor (onboard computer says Im getting 15.4 mpg). I have to use Premium gas to keep engine from pinging after working with the dealer. After only 6 months I will probably start looking for something else.
