Overview & Reviews
Quadrasteer is no longer available on 2WD models, standard wheel sizes have been bumped up to 17 inches, and on extended and crew cab models; a power sunroof that includes HomeLink and a deluxe overhead console are new options. Chevy takes a step backward this year with the return of rear drum brakes, as opposed to last year's four-wheel disc setup. A gasoline/electric hybrid model is also introduced in limited quantities this year. Basically a "mild" hybrid, the system provides no power boost, but does allow for automatic engine startup and shutdown at stops. This truck also comes with four 120-volt AC power outlets and is the only Silverado with rear disc brakes this year. The hybrid truck is only available in Western states and Florida.
- Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid electric option.
- Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

05 W/T Silverado - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Jim - July 18 - 3:00 pmBought new as a commuter truck. Great gas mileage and reliability. 24 plus MPG HWY. Excellent service at nearly 70,000 miles. Original brakes- tires -shocks. Just grease and oil changes here. Truck was $13,206 new. Dirt cheap to buy, operate, and own. Great resale if I decide to sell.

My favorite of 8 trucks - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By RIck in Houston - April 5 - 9:40 amIve owned 8 GM manufactured pickup trucks since about 1990. They all performed well. Based on my experience, I wouldnt consider another brand. But of all of the trucks Ive owned, the 05 crew cab is by far my favorite. Little things like dual thermostat, 60/40 split front seat, e/q for stereo & more made this truck a bargain. I bought it new, changed the oil, put 2 sets of tires on it & one battery. That has been the extent of my maintainence. Runs like a top, great on gas, what can I say? I hate to let her go, but its time for a new one.

Chevys are built for work and play - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Jerry Sullivan - February 6 - 12:56 pmI use my truck on my job. I work as an inspector on new pipeline construction. Many times I have to use the 4 wheel drive and it performs excellent. I also pull a 30 travel trailer and it handles it with no problem. I especially like the "Auto 4 wheel drive" feature. When I drive up to some mud and stream crossings...I think "4WD or not?" I just press the "Auto 4WD" and it takes care of the guess work. So far I am very, very happy with it!

My 2005 crew cab - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Roger Brinkmann - December 30 - 3:00 amI have not had any problems with this vehicle. It is good on gas if you dont step on the gas too hard when taking off from a stop. It could get better gas mileage on the interstate. Above 60 mph, gas mileage starts dropping

WOW - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Chris - December 19 - 9:20 amThis is the first full sized truck Ive purchased. I had a Dakota before this. The difference is amazing. The Silverado has incredible comfort even with the cloth interior. The seats are very supportive. The ride is smooth as well. The 5.3 V8 has exceptional power...and I get 17 mpg! Not bad.

My dream truck! - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Dave - December 16 - 8:20 amIve wanted an SS ever since they unveiled the concept truck way back in 2000! I finally "took the plunge" back in July and man was it worth it!! This truck is awesome. Great performance, head-turning good looks and best of all its a genuine Chevy (the ONLY true American car/truck company in my opinion!!). I would highly recommend springing for the optional tonneau cover for improved mpg! I also invested in a Line-X spray in bedliner right off the bat!

The Best Ride on the Road - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Ronald Holstein - November 14 - 11:06 amThis is the first truck we have purchased in twenty years. The ride and comfort is incredible. The support the seats give my back allows me to drive without discomfort. We would like to add that prior to purchasing this vehicle we rented Ford, Chevy, Dodge Ram, 2 wheel and four wheel drives, before making a decision. Our choice is obvious as to load carrying, ride comfort, and gas mileage. Chevrolet is the only vehicle that offers OnStar. My suggestion to anyone that that is about to purchase a vehicle go to Enterprise Rentals they have 2 wheel and 4 wheel new trucks. Rent each one drive at least 600 miles then put a 1500 pound load on each vehicle & see for yourself before you buy.
