Overview & Reviews
Quadrasteer is no longer available on 2WD models, standard wheel sizes have been bumped up to 17 inches, and on extended and crew cab models; a power sunroof that includes HomeLink and a deluxe overhead console are new options. Chevy takes a step backward this year with the return of rear drum brakes, as opposed to last year's four-wheel disc setup. A gasoline/electric hybrid model is also introduced in limited quantities this year. Basically a "mild" hybrid, the system provides no power boost, but does allow for automatic engine startup and shutdown at stops. This truck also comes with four 120-volt AC power outlets and is the only Silverado with rear disc brakes this year. The hybrid truck is only available in Western states and Florida.
- Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid electric option.
- Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

2005 Chev Crew Cab Short Box 4X4 Z71 - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By LJP - August 6 - 9:20 pmThis truck is one of the best designed Chevy trucks I have owned. Everyone I take for a ride likes the 4 doors and roominess. The comfort is better then most cars I have driven. The match of crew cab and short (58" bed) is a perfect blend for my use. The 5.3L coupled with the limited slip 3.42 axle is good on mileage and acceleration. The fuel tank is large enough to get me where I need to go with minimal stops at the outrageously priced gas pumps. All in all, this truck was a hit even with some complaints that I had / have.

American Top 3 - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Howard M McGoldrick - May 27 - 4:43 amThis vehicle rides and handles much better then any of the competions vehicles I road tested! I think Chev. outdid themselves in this model truck. I will buy another GM truck. It handles great on the road, has a quick response, and can pull down a house.

New toy - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Cruz - May 7 - 6:00 pmI am still in AWE over the fact that a Crew Cab 4x4 w/ a 5.3L and 4.10 gears can get 15.5 MPG off the showroom floor.

One nice truck... - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By JGreen212 - April 17 - 10:00 ammy past three vehicles have been SUVs 2 Tahoes and 1 Denali. Some may say that going to a Silverado is a down grade and I say your wrong! This truck is incredible to say the least. The Crew cab gives you the interior room of any SUV and it still has a 5 1/2 ft. bed to haul stuff in. The Ride w/ the Z71 package is amazing, especially when Im pullin a 24 box trailer w/ the 5.3L passing every Hemi and Triton is sight. Best buy in quite awhile.

The Best Truck - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Paul Kim - November 18 - 4:00 pmI am glad I chose this truck over a Ford or a Dodge. I have never had any problems with it, and it has got good power, handling, and comfort. Chevy is right. This is the "Right Truck".

What a sweet ride - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By JWH - November 14 - 6:16 amIve owned the Z71 for about a year and am absolutely satisfied. The ride is extremely smooth and road noise is almost non-existent. The seats are very comfortable (unlike the Ford F- 150 which felt like I was sitting on a slab of concrete). The 5.3 V8 has plenty of get-up-and-go and the mileage is 16.5 city and 19 on the highway. The heated seats are great in Minnesota winters.

By akgldhnd - November 3 - 8:00 amI drove a 2001 Dakota. The Chevy drives incredibly nicer. And the size difference is incredible... I also get better mileage.
