This Year's Model Updates:

Coming off a redesign last year, the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado is unchanged other than the addition of satellite radio as standard equipment and an optional integrated trailer brake controller.

Pros:
  • Refined and very quiet ride, pleasing fit and finish inside, seats are comfortable for long drives, comprehensive list of safety equipment.
Cons:
  • Larger turning circle than most rivals, mediocre interior storage and cupholders.

  • Is Silverado mileage false advertising? - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

Overall I really like my 08 Silverado over my 01. The ride is much better and its quieter. I got the 5.3 engine with 3.42 gears for better mileage, but Im getting 12mpg city and 16mpg highway? My 01 got 14mpg city and 18mpg highway. notice mileage on this site is split between folks getting great mileage and folks getting really bad mileage. Something sure seems amiss! The cruise control doesnt seem to work as well as on my 01.

Parked it when gas reached $4/gal. due to poor gas mileage. Love the way it drives now that it has an ARE shell (weight on the tail helps). Great for towing. Always reliable - no problems whatsoever. Cloth seat material is a PITA -- I put Wet Okole seat covers in the first month. It didnt hold its value -- I tried selling for $12.5K and didnt get a single call. I will resume driving it daily when the Honda Civic lease ends.

  • LTZ Z71 Crew Cab - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

LTZ Z71 Crew Cab is the way to go! So far, I am averaging 17.9mpg with 12k miles of driving in all conditions. I love pretty much everything about this truck and I havent had to take it in for any warranty work yet! the only thing I can say need improvemnts are the roof height if you get a sunroof. I am 62" and sometimes I my head brushes the roof. Annoying as heck. Also, the rear bumper is worthless in the new trucks. I was bumped in the rear left corner. With the old truck, I wouldnt have had any damage at all. However, the bumper on the new truck folded right in and the side panel crushed. $1500 to repair! The lady hardly touched me!

  • A tad disapointed in this one - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Nice design of the new body style. Very comfortable as well. But, why oh why has GM made the 1/2 ton trucks so low to the ground. Had to put a 2.5" leveling kit in the front to take that nose dive out of the front end. Also, they made a change in the steering that is way too responsive. The slightest little movement and youre going off into the next lane which does get very scarry with any hiway traffic. They put the radio controls a little out of reach so changing the station on the radio has become a frightening situation. The old steering response in my 2002 2500HD was great and a more relaxing drive. Now its more of a stressed drive than before. Why cant a good thing be left alone.

  • Great Truck so far - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I traded in my 2005 GMC 2WD Crew which was a great truck. Couldnt resist the rebates and incentives GM was giving on the 08s besides Id been wanting a 4WD. So far a real nice truck. Ive read where the new truck is worlds better than the old but I cant tell it. Both are great handling, comfortable and well built. I wasnt sold on the looks of the 2008 model but its growing on me, especially in Ruby red. The interior is very nice and comfortable and it also has the dual climate zones which we loved in the old truck. The XM radio feature is a nice change and I like knowing OnStar is there for emergencies. My insurance premium went down also.

  • Great truck bad mpg - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

Great truck, comfortable ride, plenty of power. Although, unlike my last 2005 Silverado & 2003 Sliverado with the same 5.3L engine without active fuel management that got 20-22mpg hwy, this truck is only getting 13-14mpg hwy. Active fuel management doesnt really seem to work.

  • Great Truck! - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

I love my Chevy truck! I grew up on a farm where a truck was a piece of equipment, not a fancy car. I dont want heated leather seats or anything else that screams luxury! I bought a regular cab work truck, installed some nice 20 inch wheels and tires, tinted the windows and then I did nothing except drive it, haul stuff, tow trailers and use it for its intended purpose. This is a truck and it does its job well. I havent done any maintenance except change the oil and rotate the tires. The 4.8 V8 has plenty of power for normal towing and driving. Its just personal preference, but I like the look of the Chevy better than the alternatives.

  • New 2008 truck - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

New system that cuts 4 cylinders off not so effective. Best mpgs 18. Expected better. Im not an aggressive driver and usually maintain a constant speed. Mostly highway driving. Very nice ride, but not as responsive as my Nissan Titan was at 16.5 mpg

  • RPM Change while driving/Idle Change...? - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

The Chevy dealer said that this was "Normal an that it was the alternator" kicking in. The truck while driving at any/every speed will idle up an then back down about 100 RPMs. I have put duel flowmaster exaust on it and now this is undeniable. You can also feel it in the truck itself when it kicks in almost every 30 seconds or so. Im pissed! I payed alot for this truck, and work hard for my money. I hate beign lied to an I feel like that is just what Chevy did! Do any of you guys know what this might be, or what it sounds like? Thanks for the help, -Jon

  • Fixed What I Didnt Like - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

Bought an 08 Silverado 4x4 with the 4.8 V8 in January 09 when Chevy couldnt give a truck away. Got a great price. Overall love the truck, except the front clearance for a 4x4. Cracked the license plate frame the first week crossing a frozen creek. Ended up adding a 4 inch Rancho lift and it handles even better with a better ride and turning radius. The approach and departure angles along with articulation is infinitely better. Highly recommended if you are actually going to take it off road. I got 21-22 MPG on the highway before the lift and adding 33 inch mud tires. Now about 18, still great for what it is. Stock tires were useless offroad. Other complaint: stock skid plates are plastic.
