This Year's Model Updates:

After a complete redesign last year, few changes make news for 2000. Most substantial is the addition of an optional fourth access door to extended cab models. The already potent Vortec 4800 and 5300 V8 engines make more power, and programmable door locks can be instructed to unlock automatically when the Silverado is shut off. A Sportside cargo box is available on 1500 LT models, and 1500 4WD trucks can be equipped with wheel flares this year. LS and LT trucks get a standard electrochromic self-dimming rearview mirror with compass and exterior temperature display, and a soft tonneau cover is available from the factory.

Pros:
  • Fourth-door access standard on extended cab models, strong 4800 and 5300 V8 engines, programmable power door locks, disc brakes at all four corners.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

My first pickup. Love it! Plenty of room in the extended cab for kids. My wife and I have sat in there while the adult kids had the front. A bit cramped but not uncomfortable and a fun change for us. Only one problem. In the year and a half I have owned it. All brake rotors were warped. Dealer replaced them at no charge. Once youve had a truck youll never go back!

Great vehicle for teenagers. Limited passenger space on the regular cab, great visability and large enough to feel safer than a compact vehicle. Plus, a pickup always comes in handy.

This is my second new chevy truck. 1st went 5 good years. This Z71 may also if the squeaks, small repairs and the dealers indifference and lack of service ability doesnt force me to sell it sooner. In service for two days to tell me they have to order a door gasket for installation at another time. Two days to address drive shaft slip & bump which was repaired by "installing a rubber ball from wal- mart to cushion the thud". I was toild this the third time I went in. What happen to mid-ship bearings? What happened to service? Why all the squeaks & rattles? $32,000 should buy the same solid construction that $21,000 did in 1994.

I think this redesign has its benefits, (ride, quiteness) but theres too much plastic and loose fitting interior parts. I have what seems to be common problems-- driveshaft yoke likes to bind on takeoff and makes a thumping noise, ABS brakes absolutely suck--if I have one tire loosing traction, it just hums and does not want to stop!!! I almost rear-ended someone because of a very small patch of ice!! Needs more sway control--maybe a rear sway bar-- too rocky in slow speed manuevers.

  • Great Truck!...BUT....... - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

My truck overall has been a great truck except for a few things:1st the throttle body had to be replaced shortly after purchase(I know 12 others who have experienced this) the fuel gauge dances around all the time because the sending unit is bad (Lots of problems here also) (not recalled and cant pay to fix), Im in the process of having to fix possibly the carrier bearings on drive shaft because of a roar in the rear end. Steering shaft was recalled to be lubed. Overall I have really enjoyed this truck. I have driven all over the country with it, pulled and hauled trailers and the 5.3 has been great. Fuel mileage is great for the size and power. Confortable and has been very reliable.

This truck has been to the shop more times in 1 1/2 years than my 89 was in 11 years with 220,000 miles. So far these items have been replaced; yoke, ignition switch, auto 4wd switch, rear door latches, front seat belts, radio, 2 tires (Firestone) and tail gate handle housing. Body is solid and looks and drives great. Lots of power to 97 mph then falls on its face. Sun visors are usless on the side. Coolant temperature guage starts too high (160).

Excellent in 4x4, like the push button as opposed to floor mount gear. Should come with spray in liner as option. Wish mine had air vents in back seat to force cold and hot air. Rear window defrost should be an option too. Love my truck.

I bought this Chevy 2000 in may or so and right away my tranny was shifting odd and seemed to have a slip got a flush and better now but not all there. The knocking is terrible when started when cold and needs to sit higher and needs more leaf springs in it cant haul hardly anything without sagging. Love the power and ride but bad gas mileage. Not trying to complain just saying how the truck is. Great power fun truck just dunno if its the one for me
