Model Overview:

The Chevrolet Colorado is Chevy's entry in the highly competitive compact truck segment. Like its rivals, the Colorado is closer to midsize than truly compact. Accordingly, it offers a reasonable amount of hauling capability without the added cost and bulk of a full-size pickup. As is customary in this segment, Chevrolet offers extended-cab and four-door crew-cab layouts, multiple bed lengths and available off-road preparation.

Older versions of the Chevy Colorado could be worth a look if you need a basic work truck, but their four- and five-cylinder engines are weak for this class (though you may find a few examples with a robust optional V8 engine). Colorados from 2015 and later are dramatically better, with competitive powertrains, up-to-date technology features and a spacious interior.

  • Good little truck - 2008 Chevrolet Colorado

Overall I like the truck. Had some initial problems with a bad Onstar module that was draining the battery. Was fixed under warranty. Gas mileage could be better but have been averaging 20.5 mpg combined lately. Much, much better than the F150 this replaced. Decent styling, very good ride. Fit and finish of exterior could be better. Four wheel drive with locking differential was a big plus during our last New England winter.

  • satisfied but could be improved - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

I have the 4wd work truck and bought it new and have not had any mechanical problems except that sometimes it wont start on first turn off the key and the check engine light comes on periodically though the gas mileage is slightly less than advertised and it is hard to park in a tight space due to it having a 40 foot turning radius

  • ZQ8 fun to drive - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado

Love this truck. with 1500 miles the only problem Ive had is the air conditioning, it was low on freon, but with that taken care of I have no major complaints. It handles great. averaging 21 mpg with the I5

Have a 1100 miles so far and have been very happy. Love the way it drives and have been getting excellent gas mileage with the V6. Getting 26 mpg @ 70 mph. Very peppy with the V6, I believe it out performs my 2013 Silverado. The Infotainment system is very nice with great sound. So far the only thing that I am upset about is the lack of a CD player and auto 4 wheel drive option. I live in Michigan and enjoyed the option of auto 4wd when the roads were slick but not heavly snow covered. Has plenty of tow ability and love the 6 yo 7 mpg more I an getting over the 2013 Silverado.

  • Built Cheap 05 Colorado - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

This truck is cheaply built. I have had to replace the tires on it at 30K miles. Now they tell me I need to spend $1500-2000 on new brakes, shocks, struts, and tie rods. I have had the front end aligned once and it needs it again at 50K miles. The interior molding in the windshield was ruined after 1 year. Numerous rattles and squeaks. I would be ashamed as a manufacturer to sell this vehicle.

I feel that the reviewer missed the mark on the Chevy Colorado. The inline 5 has plenty of power and this small truck is easy and comfortable to drive and park. As an owner of a construction company I have driven almost every make and model of pickup and i find that the Colorado gives you the best value for your buck.

  • good campact utility truck - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado

Iam 6 8" and I fit better in this truck then I did in my 2001 tahoe. I like it better because its smaller, easy to mauneuver in traffic, and fun to drive. The engine does need more lower end torque, but I must say I do enjoy all that back end power. It takes off like a rocket past 40. However, I have yet to see the claimed 18 to 24 MPG. More like 16 to 16

  • 2nd Colorado in NC - 2009 Chevrolet Colorado

I just bought my second Colorado. I owned my first one for 1 1/2 years and would still have it if my kid hadnt outgrown the jump seats in the back of the extended cab. I bought a new Crew Cab, and it is much roomier. Chevy really improved the truck for 09. The brakes operate much more smoothly. Standard OnStar is a nice touch for the price. The new body color trim with chrome accents make the truck look more stylish, and the new chrome wheels look great. The old truck was pretty bulletproof and economical (21 mpg in everyday driving and 27 on trips). As a repeat owner, I am very pleased with this economical, reliable everyday truck, and I would recommend it without hesitation.

  • Great in the woods - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

I bought my Colorado used with 29,000 miles on it, and the day I bought I started putting it to the test. I have been through some of the worst mudholes, the deepest snow, I drove right through a swamp once, and it goes right through it in 4wd. The only problem I ever had with it is the transmission mount sits really low and can get hung up on things. This is a great little truck for getting in and out the woods for hunting, or just playing around in the mud. There really isnt anything that I havent put my Colorado through, and it still runs strong, and I havent had to replace anything on it and it now has 110,000 miles in it.
