This Year's Model Updates:

The 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche is the newest addition to the Chevy truck lineup. Incorporating a unique convertible cab system, the Avalanche can transform itself from a five-passenger sport-utility with a 5-foot-3-inch bed into a standard cab pickup with a full 8-foot-1-inch utility bed. A 5300 Vortec V8 is standard along with a heavy-duty towing package.

Pros:
  • Versatile and innovative cab configuration, strong V8 engine, high tow rating.
Cons:
  • Funky styling, cheap interior pieces, limited drivetrain choices.

The gas mileage isnt great, no, but its comparable to other vehicles of this size. It is comfortable, versatile and attractive. This is the first truck Ive owned that the entire family is happy with!

This is the nicest riding auto I have ever owned. I have had a yukon, silverado, t100, and a Landcruiser, and I have to say this is the best riding and to me anyway, best looking truck ever. I got mine with all the bells and whistles, and I have had great luck with it so far.

  • Great Truck - 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

I love my Avalance. I didnt think Id like it at first, but it rides smoother than any other truck I know and having a weather-proof bed is great. Ive pulled trailers and boats across country with no problem and it hasnt failed me yet. I think it is the most practical truck available, mostly because of the water-proof bed. The four wheel drive works great too, Ive done some serious off- roading and havent been stuck in a place I couldnt get out of with a little work.

  • AWESOME VECIHLE ! - 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Owned since new. Awesome power and it manhandles my 7,500 pound travel trailer. Smooth riding for a 3/4 ton truck and sticks to the road like glue. Smooth shifting tranny, not the clunky type in some of the other GM products. This BLOWS away Fords and Doge Ram . Toyota or the rest of Toy trucks need not apply for the job. Easily swallows and carries 30 sheets of half inch drywall 4x8. Then switchs back to a family carrier. Most dependable set of wheels ever. I would buy another in a heartbeat but not with the wimp like 5.3 liter engine. Even with the 4:10 rear it wont tow well on the long hills.

  • Fun for everyone! - 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

When parking in public, leave time to answer onlookers questions and enthusiastic comments. It truely does turn heads. Not since I drove my 67 Shelby have I noticed this much attention. Im in my 50s but the teens all want a turn at the wheel. And my mother also commented on the ride comfort in the back seat. (as good or better than the full sized Oldsmobile that I traded in). The appeal seems to span generations and genders. As a downer, my tailgate also fell open in the locked position.

  • Love the Style! - 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Drives like your always on a new road. Great to change from six passenger to hauling cement in two minutes.

  • Best vehicle I ever owned - 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche
    By -

I have owned forty new vehicles in the last thirty-seven years and this one has the power, 8.1 (496) engine with 37.5 gas tank and 3.73 rear end to give me about fifteen MPG. Since 1976 when they made cars smaller and I am a large person, the Avalanche has the right fit and ride.
