This Year's Model Updates:

The 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche is the newest addition to the Chevy truck lineup. Incorporating a unique convertible cab system, the Avalanche can transform itself from a five-passenger sport-utility with a 5-foot-3-inch bed into a standard cab pickup with a full 8-foot-1-inch utility bed. A 5300 Vortec V8 is standard along with a heavy-duty towing package.

Pros:
  • Versatile and innovative cab configuration, strong V8 engine, high tow rating.
Cons:
  • Funky styling, cheap interior pieces, limited drivetrain choices.

One of the best riding and driving vehicles I have ever owned. Awesome power and torque. Gas mileage is not bad for all the cubic inches you get. A good all around vehicle. I would definately buy another one.

I love it, wish it got a bit better mileage, but on a truck this big you cant really do much about it. It has more than enough horse power for most any job. I love the way it looks. I think I might upgrade mine to a 2500 though.

    Poor rearview.

  • Love my truck - 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

My Avalanche has been a great vehicle. No problems at all. I love driving a truck that is so comfortable. We drive from VA to FL, about 11 hrs straight and get out with no discomfort. None my of vehicles get great fuel mileage, so that isnt a huge concern.

  • A perfect Dads weekend truck! - 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

90% of the time I dont need an 8 bed. But those times that I do its great. The only problem Ive had was about every 20th start I would get smoke out of the exhaust. Dealer found a SB that addressed the problem, replaced the PCV valve and BAAM, no more problem. In spite of what some reviews say about the "pain" of changing from SUV to 8 bed, it really is easy and doesnt take much time at all.

The coolest thing about this SUT(sport Utility Truck) is that even after I baught it in august 2001 it still turns heads today 3/2002.

Just bought this awesome SUV/Truck Z71 after admiring the looks from day one. I can fit both my teenage sons in back with room to spare. I am one happy son of a gun right now and havent even really started enjoying all the features yet.

  • 3/4 Ton Big Block is The Only Way to Go - 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche
    By -

The 3/4 ton with the big block is the only way to tow my heavy travel trailer across country. Much better towing with the 373 rear and Allision tranny than a small block 5.3 screaming with a 410 rear. Very flexible easily loading almost 30 sheets 1/2 drywall and closing the gate. Mileage is better with this 8.1 liter than my old 454. About 14-15 not towing and 11 with a 7000 pound trailer. I dont have to move over for the tractor trailers like you do with the small block. It is getting time to look at another Avalanche but I wont buy one with a small block. I love the truck but do not want a fancy toy truck with a 5.3 liter.

  • Load-up chezzy - 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

I enjoy my Avalanche. I like the versitility and the only 2 things Id change are the 3 slide panel leak and are not covered under any warranty although the sales people say they are. And the tail gate Id make one thats double doored opens right and left. The drop gate is so traditional in trucks. Lets expand Chevys horizons.

  • This is an awesome truck - 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche
    By -

I drive this truck about 80 miles/day. I love driving this truck. I used to drive my motorcycle to/from work. It is more fun to drive my truck. I now have 120,000 miles and it has only been in the shop once. The transmission oil pump exploded destroying the transmission at 91,160 miles, 1,160 miles off of my extended warranty.
