This Year's Model Updates:

The 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche is the newest addition to the Chevy truck lineup. Incorporating a unique convertible cab system, the Avalanche can transform itself from a five-passenger sport-utility with a 5-foot-3-inch bed into a standard cab pickup with a full 8-foot-1-inch utility bed. A 5300 Vortec V8 is standard along with a heavy-duty towing package.

Pros:
  • Versatile and innovative cab configuration, strong V8 engine, high tow rating.
Cons:
  • Funky styling, cheap interior pieces, limited drivetrain choices.

  • Utilitiful truck ever... - 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

What more can I say that the Av is everything Im looking for in a truck. Hauling stuff, kids, camping friendly, etc. At first, I thought it was ugly until it grew on me. It could use some improvement in performance that the acceleration felt flat from stop unless you stomp on it, a little play in the steering feedback, and brakes just doesnt grab well.

my wife drives this truck to work and i use it whenever i have to pull a trailer or tote family around the outside plastic makes it ugly but the pulling power and comfort to drive make up for looks the only thing that iv found it has to put any effort into pulling is my 71 f100 and the 1500 lb car trailer other than that 17 inch tires are expensive im almost thru my 1st set pricing the next after45000 miles

I never in my life thought that I would purchase a truck. I saw the commercial on TV, "change for a dollar" and I just had to go and check it out. I took it for a test drive and decided that it was the one for me.

I like every thing about my Avalanche except the gas mileage. I am considering putting a camper top on it because the bed with the covers on it is to low to haul large objects with out exposing them to the elements. all in all i am very pleased with the truck and would buy another one.

Very quiet easy to drive vehicle. For those wanting a big SUV this is the one. You can take it any where, big city or two track.

What to say... When I forst saw the previews in 99 I was impressed. Now that Im an owner, Im even more impressed. Vary little body role, great get up and go, I get anywhere from 18-21 MPG pretty regularly. Though I have to say I have made some modifications. Not only is it a big vehical it drives like one. Parking is no problem. Im used to larger trucks. the only area I have a problem with is being able to see out the rear end. It has its challenges. Overall, best bang for the buck. Most versitle truck I have ever owned and Ive owned many.

Very good overall. I do have a clunking sound in the front that the dealer has yet to find.

I have the 2002 Pewter Z-66, 5.3 engine. I jsut came back from a drive from New Mexico to Florida, the round trip logged nearly 4000 miles. It was the most enjoyable long drive I have had in years. My wife and I were able to knock down 1100 miles the first day. The roomy interior allowed for one us sleep comfortably while the other drove. Gas milage avgerage was 17.6 we stayed withing 5mph of the speed limit. We also had very strong cross/head winds. The Avalanche was very stable and comfortable in those conditions. Ray
