The 2.8 sedan gets a valve job resulting in 18 more horsepower and additional torque. Side-impact airbags are standard, as is traction control. Opt for the automatic and you'll get the same Tiptronic technology that allows Biff to manually shift Buffy's 911 Cabriolet. A new station wagon called Avant debuts, while the A4 1.8T gets new wheels, a sport package and an ambient temperature gauge. New colors and stereo improvements round out the changes for 1998.

Great fun w/some drawbacks - 1998 Audi A4
By AFT - April 23 - 2:00 amI love driving this car - whether its just to the store or on a 300 mile vacation. This is my first AWD and I now swear by it for the best traction and overall feeling of safety. However the problems with the engine and catalytic convertor, combined with the cost of maintenance, sour the experience. After three years of ownership, Ive replaced the cat three times. The engine work is another nightmare altogether - suffice to say it cost me nearly $5k. I still love the car in spite of all that.

By Sharky poo - March 30 - 2:00 amThis vehicle is amazing! I used to drive a 1999 Acura Integra GS-R and the performance is very close between them. The 190hp is enough to push around the estimated 4,500lbs that the car weighs. The handling is also great due to the AWD. It has the high performance Brembo Break kit which makes stopping extremely easy. This car is like a tank. The body is solid and so is the drivetrain, and it will go anywhere

By justchris - March 28 - 2:00 amI have put 18000 miles on my beautiful red/black leather interior/5speed/Quattro in the past 18 months and I love it. The only disappointemnt was the Bose speaker in the rear blew and Audi would not repair it. I think Bose should have replaced it, but Audi covers it only to 50,000 miles, which I think being a Bose,one of the best they should cover it. Besides that it is so nice looking and handles like a dream. In the rain 65 on aramp is nothing. It is wonderful. Ive had 45 cars so far in my life. My 2nd Audi and I just love them.Cant be beat!

By prcannel - March 20 - 2:00 amMy first Audi. Reliable, comfortable,safe and somehow . . . lovable. My satisfaction with my A4 helped persuade at least 4 other friends to purchase their A4s, A6s and TTs. Ill never be able to go back to 2WD after driving Quattro!

By jspring - March 18 - 2:00 amBought this car with 40000 miles and have spent $7000 in 2 plus years replacing almost every moving part - shocks,wheel bearings,ABS control module and complete front end . Have not touched engine nor transmission and hope to sell car ASAP

By Wagonsrule - March 3 - 2:00 amgreat car, versatile and reliable. had to replace all 10 suspension arms in front end which is a very well known problem on A4s. other than that it has been a great car.Quattro goes through any weather without blinking.

My life with an A4 - 1998 Audi A4
By MikeSanto - February 28 - 10:00 amI have owned this car for over four years now and have loved every minute of it. It is tons of fun to drive, gets great gas mileage and is quite comfortable. The egineering details are fantastic. Four and a half years later I dont think there are many cars with a nicer interior design, and I still get compliments on how good the car looks. Reliability has been very good (though likely not on par with Japanese makes). Service and parts can be expensive, but I dont think the prices are out of line for a car in this category. Overall, I would recommend an A4 to anyone who loves to drive, and appreciates well thought-out automotive engineering.

Goes in the snow - 1998 Audi A4
By jjones5254 - February 3 - 2:00 amI bought this Audi AWD to get me home to the hill top I live on and it has exceeded expectations. It will go anywhere my 4x4 Explorer will with the exception of ground clearance. It is fun to drive here in western VA. Dealership has been good although not a cheap car to maintain. I bought with 87K and now have almost 120k. If you can afford it buy an Audi Certified car for the excellent 100k warranty. That is what I plan to do next.
