Overview & Reviews
The 2.8 sedan gets a valve job resulting in 18 more horsepower and additional torque. Side-impact airbags are standard, as is traction control. Opt for the automatic and you'll get the same Tiptronic technology that allows Biff to manually shift Buffy's 911 Cabriolet. A new station wagon called Avant debuts, while the A4 1.8T gets new wheels, a sport package and an ambient temperature gauge. New colors and stereo improvements round out the changes for 1998.
- Gutsy new V6 engine. Comfortable interior. Great handling. Stellar design. Optional all-wheel drive. Optional Tiptronic automanual transmission.
- Small back seat. Useless cupholders.

A4 Quattro - 1998 Audi A4
By Eric Peterson - September 10 - 10:00 amOne of the best handling cars and most fun cars to drive. Good power (but not great), great handling (better after lowering), and adequate comfort. Good mileage, and with all wheel drive is a car that you can take just about anywhere on any road under any conditions. Exceptional brakes, although peddle pressure required is high -- suggest changing to Brembo disks and calipers. Reliability, outside of front suspension parts, is outstanding. After more than 150,000 miles, it still feels and runs like new.

Great car with an extended warranty - 1998 Audi A4
By cary - May 4 - 10:00 amBought car new almost 5 years ago. Love driving it but theres no excuse for having to replace the battery 3X, the instrument panel 2X, the alternator, turn signal stalk, tiptronic magnetic switch, computer, coolant temp sensor, fuel tank sending unit, coolent reservoir, cam tensioner seals, hazard flasher switch, radio, 2 speakers, and 2 CV boots in 48000 miles. I keep looking behind me to see if the extended warranty company has sent Tony Soprano after me!

lemon? - 1998 Audi A4
By gflos - April 22 - 2:00 amInspite of no abuse & dealer maintained on Audi schedule weve had various problems with this car both electrical & mechanical. Weve had to replace a drivers window motor, airbag sensor on passenger side, a rear differential while still under warranty. The car is about 5yrs old with 98,000mi & we now learn that the cam seals & cam adjusters need to be replaced. I feel that this is a major mechanical failure for a car like this. Based on our experience we would be hard pressed to buy another Audi. My 3 yr old Dodge Dakota Quad Cab with 71,000 mi has a much better track record than our Audi.

WORST CAR IVE EVER OWNED - 1998 Audi A4
By mnbeckertx - March 10 - 2:00 amWorst mistake Ive ever made was buying this car. Spent more time in the shop than I did driving it. The dealer gave me Toyota Corolla loaner cars - if at all (expected more after a great experience with BMW). I tried to get rid of this car for years, but was unable - nobody would give me any money for it. HORRIBLE RESALE VALUE
