This Year's Model Updates:

A number of interior, exterior and mechanical updates were made for 2004. The V6 engine added slightly more power and is now rated at 265 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. Outside, you'll find a restyled front fascia, new chrome trim, dual exhaust tips, a new wheel design for Touring models, updated headlights and taillights and a rear wing spoiler. The interior now features trendy brushed metal-look trim for the center stack, leather armrests, auto-on/off headlights, new ambient foot lighting and enhanced functionality of the second-row seat for third-row access. Touring models get a new version of the Bose premium audio system and power lumbar support for the driver seat. Finally, safety has been improved on all MDXs with the addition of side curtain airbags and a tire-pressure monitoring system.

Pros:
  • Room for seven passengers or serious amounts of cargo, gutsy V6 engine, well-balanced suspension, top-rated crash test scores, low price.
Cons:
  • Limited off-road capability, below-average tow rating, ho-hum interior design and materials.

The car is incredible. I traded in a jeep liberty because our family needed more room - boy did we get it! The car seats 7 comfortably - key is no wheel well in second row! The dvd is outstanding quaility and the navigation sytem is reliable and efficient. The car handles like a dream...the cars turning radius is supurb! And the camera when the car is in reverse is a life saver!

We purchased our MDX out of state to get a better deal and enjoyed trying out the navigation and DVD in a new city and on a long trip. The navigation was wonderful and helped us get around the city with ease. Also, the restaurant locator was excellent. The rest stop finder is nice too. If you travel, the navigation feature is a must-have! The DVD is nice too. Very solid in the ceiling and doesnt block the drivers rear view as much as some other models. The ride quality is excellent. The seats are comfortable and it has good room in the 2nd row. We have two carseats in the back seat and I can still sit very comfortably between the two seats.

Having only had this vehicle for less than a month, some of my opinions could change. However, at this point in the game it is without a doubt the finest vehicle I have ever driven, including the Lexus, Cadillac, Jags and BMWs. I frequently put 50k miles per year on vehicles, so this was a consideration when choosing Acura. The resale on Acuras is extremely high, and talk to anyone who has ever had one; they LOVE them. After reading Consumer Reports rate it, I knew I couldnt go wrong.

  • Bad Humming Noise - 2004 Acura MDX

I have owned a 2004 Acura MDX SUV for about two months. This car has caused me many problems. When I drive at an engine speed of 2000 RPMS I can hear an annoying, constant humming noise. The Acura dealer has checked it a number of times and tell me it is normal and cannot do anything about it. I have also contacted the Acura Manufacturer and they have given me the same reply. I do not know what else I can do. To all future 2004 Acura MDX SUV costumers: when you take a test drive for this car, make sure to listen for this noise when the engine speed reaches about 2000 RPMS. Thank you.

  • Solid SUV - 2004 Acura MDX

Great, solid vehicle. Comfortable on a long trip, wide stance gives a very stable ride, bigger inside than it looks. Lots of power. Dont know about the lackluster interior comments from some reviewers, but it is functional and fine with me. Only complaint I have is the gearshift could be better designed and easier to move between gears. Not as "off road" as my Jeep, but it doesnt claim to be. Also, I wouldnt buy it if I had to use it to tow much weight.

One year and 9000 miles have been reasonable, I find that there is more than usual hunting for gears(between 4th and 5th)even on mildly slopy roads. (2) Our dealership services are shameful they use recycled engine oil that too not the recommended SAE 5-20 but 5-30. For next simple oil change I will try DIY.
