This Year's Model Updates:

A number of interior, exterior and mechanical updates were made for 2004. The V6 engine added slightly more power and is now rated at 265 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. Outside, you'll find a restyled front fascia, new chrome trim, dual exhaust tips, a new wheel design for Touring models, updated headlights and taillights and a rear wing spoiler. The interior now features trendy brushed metal-look trim for the center stack, leather armrests, auto-on/off headlights, new ambient foot lighting and enhanced functionality of the second-row seat for third-row access. Touring models get a new version of the Bose premium audio system and power lumbar support for the driver seat. Finally, safety has been improved on all MDXs with the addition of side curtain airbags and a tire-pressure monitoring system.

Pros:
  • Room for seven passengers or serious amounts of cargo, gutsy V6 engine, well-balanced suspension, top-rated crash test scores, low price.
Cons:
  • Limited off-road capability, below-average tow rating, ho-hum interior design and materials.

  • Great car but some repairs required - 2004 Acura MDX

Overall this is a great car, got it back in 2004 brand new, traded up from the Maxima, MDX handles excellently in bad weather, awesome traction. Great room in the back for the kids. I have 90,000 and it started requiring maintenance, so far replaced 2 engine mounts and will be replacing the 3rd one very soon along with the inner tie rod, the rear shocks had to be replaced at 30k. Funny enough I dont do any off road driving or towing, just regular city commute. Well still keep the car for another 10k and probably trade it for something else.

  • Affordable luxury SUV - 2004 Acura MDX

Driven over 112k in less than 6 years. No mechanical problems. Drives very smooth and still handles/feels like a new vehicle after so long. Some cosmetic problems here and there. Sales person pressured to buy extended warranty, but it is waste of money. Overall a reliable and affordable luxury SUV.

One year and 9000 miles have been reasonable, I find that there is more than usual hunting for gears(between 4th and 5th)even on mildly slopy roads. (2) Our dealership services are shameful they use recycled engine oil that too not the recommended SAE 5-20 but 5-30. For next simple oil change I will try DIY.

ACURA is one of the disappointing vehicle experiences I have ever had. The interior is sound but the plastics used are soft and mar easily, numerous trim pieces have broken. Getting warranty work completed is next to impossible. ACURA uses a just in time inventory between its dealers. After several appointments for warranty work. ACURA takes the money for the service work and they claims to "return" the parts ordered for warranty. The mileage rating is overstated, but still better than most vehicles in its class. Acura achieves the better than average rating by using the thinnest sheet metal ever.

  • Pretty darn good - 2004 Acura MDX

Just got a 2004 Touring RES/Nav cause I needed more space for the baby and cargo space to carry more than a golf bag in my bimmer. I knew that Acura always had a good reputation for overall refinement and quality and this vehicle does meet my expectations. Very smooth engine which is surprisingly quick, its cargo space is monstrous; ottoman, weber grill, you name it-it fits. Third row seating is practical for my minisized friends. Excellent vehicle with such practicality, truly an "UTILITY" vehicle.

  • Excellent car to own and drive - 2004 Acura MDX

I drive 40K a year. Perfect vehicle. Decent mileage (20.5 on highway). Will not tip like Sequoia, 4Runner. Excellent in rain, snow. Excellent sound. Very perfect vision all around for driving safety. Good in curves, swerving. Mirrors great, melt snow. Tows my boat great, out of steep ramps. Windshield banked so no chips from rocks. Fog lights catch deer on dark highway at night for you, safer. Passes fine. Pick up fine. Looks pretty. Never, never, never screws up. Have never had to have it fixed. I have 113,000 miles. Very fine car, recommend it. Others I have had are Yukon, Sequoia, Mercedes, Volvo.

  • Bluetooth-enabled - 2004 Acura MDX

I test drove an MDX with Navigation and was really impressed. My question is for existing owners as to whether this model has the Handsfreelink (bluetooth) feature that the TL has which allows you to use a Bluetooth enabled phone to work with the car? On the TL, you can dial phone numbers in your Navigation database using your (bluetooth-enabled) cell phone.

  • Built to last - 2004 Acura MDX

This is my second MDX. My first one performed exceptionally well. Interior road noise was evident. The 2004 has improved markedly in many respects. Handling, ride, and horsepower. Better fuel economy is edvident. The vehicle is superbly engineered. While the brakes are excellent, The 2001 wass superior.

  • Id buy another X - 2004 Acura MDX

This has been the perfect vehicle for me because: 1. I drive 45 miles to work, so the 25 mpg I get (driving gently) is great. 2. I can fit anything I need to inside, since it can accommodate boards/items 4 wide. 3. I love the way it looks. 4. It was cheaper than all the other SUVs I was looking at. 5. Ive had NO major issues with it for 78k miles. 6. I can perform my own maintenance (all 4 fluid changes).

I travel a lot and rent every kind of SUV to use for business around this country for work. When I get home I really appreciate everything about the MDX except the mileage. It stinks. I get 14 mpg consistently (no matter how I try to feather it) around town, but on the highway I easily get 22-24 mpg. It is quick compared to all SUVs I have driven. Plenty of room for 3 in the backseat (2 carseats and me).
