This Year's Model Updates:

A number of interior, exterior and mechanical updates were made for 2004. The V6 engine added slightly more power and is now rated at 265 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. Outside, you'll find a restyled front fascia, new chrome trim, dual exhaust tips, a new wheel design for Touring models, updated headlights and taillights and a rear wing spoiler. The interior now features trendy brushed metal-look trim for the center stack, leather armrests, auto-on/off headlights, new ambient foot lighting and enhanced functionality of the second-row seat for third-row access. Touring models get a new version of the Bose premium audio system and power lumbar support for the driver seat. Finally, safety has been improved on all MDXs with the addition of side curtain airbags and a tire-pressure monitoring system.

Pros:
  • Room for seven passengers or serious amounts of cargo, gutsy V6 engine, well-balanced suspension, top-rated crash test scores, low price.
Cons:
  • Limited off-road capability, below-average tow rating, ho-hum interior design and materials.

  • Best SUV for the $ - 2004 Acura MDX

Our 04 has about 1000 miles on it now and its been great. The ride is as quiet and smooth as most luxury sedans and the handling is better than most SUVs Ive driven. Build quality is very high as well. The DVD is great for the kids - we can go for hours without a single tantrum! And the Nav has proven more useful than we expected as we have used it to quickly find restaurants and tourist attractions. I really wouldnt change much anout this SUV!

  • Its mine and I love it - 2004 Acura MDX

I had one of the first MDXs (2001) off the line. My husband always borrowed it when it rained hard or snowed. When he asked what I wanted for a holiday gift, I said I a car he could drive in bad weather without taking mine. Just before Christmas we bought our 2nd MDX-- one for me, and he took over the 2001 MDX. We had a hard winter here, with lots of snow--and we each loved having our own MDX! I enjoy the upgrades: 265 hp, rearview scan in reverse, automatic windshield wipers, and automatic lights. The new navi system is slightly more difficult to use, but has more features. I feel safe, and I am glad he is safe, too.

  • Acuras MDX is the best SUV available - 2004 Acura MDX

This is my second MDX. It is the most comfortable and luxerious SUV Ive ever owned. Everything in it (besides the DVD and Navigation System) is standard. There are no dealer "add- ons". This includes the leather seats, the seat heaters, moonroof, side curtain air bags, 6 CD changer, premium sound system, and premium paint job. The MDX rides as smooth or smoother than any car I have ridden in. The 265 HP engine climbs mountains without any hesitation.

  • Great Car in ALMOST every way - 2004 Acura MDX

This was my second Acura MDX that has gone over 100,000 miles. I absolutely love this vehicle. It has been virtually trouble free. No matter where I go and rent cars or SUVs, it always feels great getting back to my MDX. The only complaint is that it gets only 17 MPG overall. That used to be okay -- but now with gas over $4.00 a gallon, it gets expensive. BUT, since its so darn reliable, I am not putting any money into it for repair so it works out.

Extremely well designed. Excellent build quality. Classy and functional interior. Accelerates and corners beautifully, rides great. We evaluated the Lexus RX330, BMW X5, Volvo XC90 but the MDX was the clear choice. Only bad news is due to high demand/quality, the dealers arent willing to negotiate from MSRP. At least they are no longer adding a premium over MSRP.

  • Not a retagged Pilot - 2004 Acura MDX

Before purchasing I drove both the MDX and the Pilot. The acceleration and handling of the MDX were far superior to that of the Pilot. It took an adjustment to move from a sedan to a SUV, however, the performance and handling of the MDX is comparable to my prior vehicle (98 Volvo V70). The major difference is the fit/finish/quality of the MDX, which is far superior to that of the Volvo. It is a vehicle I expect to own and enjoy for years to come.

This is a great ride, the only problem I found is I love to drive all the time.

  • Japanese Waning - 2004 Acura MDX

ACURA is one of the disappointing vehicle experiences I have ever had. The interior is sound but the plastics used are soft and mar easily, numerous trim pieces have broken. Getting warranty work completed is next to impossible. ACURA uses a just in time inventory between its dealers. After several appointments for warranty work. ACURA takes the money for the service work and they claims to "return" the parts ordered for warranty. The mileage rating is overstated, but still better than most vehicles in its class. Acura achieves the better than average rating by using the thinnest sheet metal ever.

Great new truck but fuel economy is averaging only 13.7 mpg other than that this suv is a dream to drive I had the sony dvd installed in it and it to me beats the pants off the Lexus suvs thay nose dive around every corner I know because when I take my wifes lexus in for service I get one as a loner and have put it through the test and it fails compaired to the MDX
