This Year's Model Updates:

A number of interior, exterior and mechanical updates were made for 2004. The V6 engine added slightly more power and is now rated at 265 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. Outside, you'll find a restyled front fascia, new chrome trim, dual exhaust tips, a new wheel design for Touring models, updated headlights and taillights and a rear wing spoiler. The interior now features trendy brushed metal-look trim for the center stack, leather armrests, auto-on/off headlights, new ambient foot lighting and enhanced functionality of the second-row seat for third-row access. Touring models get a new version of the Bose premium audio system and power lumbar support for the driver seat. Finally, safety has been improved on all MDXs with the addition of side curtain airbags and a tire-pressure monitoring system.

Pros:
  • Room for seven passengers or serious amounts of cargo, gutsy V6 engine, well-balanced suspension, top-rated crash test scores, low price.
Cons:
  • Limited off-road capability, below-average tow rating, ho-hum interior design and materials.

The 2004 Acura MDX Touring with Entertainment system has been one of the best vehicles Ive owned in any class and absolutely the best SUV to date. Comfort, reliability, ergonomics and a lot better than average SUV handling hi-light its many features.

I picked mine up after a 2 week wait. I was very impressed by all the features this SUV has. I did extensive research on all the SUVs and concluded this was the best one for the money. There may be others with a better look, faster, or plusher interior but none so well rounded.

The Accura MDX is a great SUV for the family & fun to drive alone. It is the perfect size & height...not too big. The lines are sexy and sleek, I love the heated seats (which I use all year round). It is comfortable and dependable.

  • The anti-mini van! - 2004 Acura MDX
    By -

Traded in a 2002 Expedition Eddie Bauer for the brand new 2004 MDX and havent looked back! I am not a believer because I have 3 kids I need to be driving a mini van! We have hauled wood, furniture, and kids stuff with our luxury SUV. I get many great comments about my truck from all ages! I still save money on gas regardless of having to buy premium gas vs. the regular gas my V8 Expedition used. The 5 of us drove to NY from GA and was comfortable the entire trip. As a prior Honda owner, I have always wanted an Acura and am happy I made the decision to buy one. The one regret I have is not getting navigation. My husband now is considering selling his precious Mustang GT convertible for a TL.

  • 2004 MDX w/ Nav - 2004 Acura MDX

Its been about 3 wks since I pick up my 04 mdx. The engine has just broken in and I started pushing it more. This vehicle drives, handles quite well and is quite. I like the easy-to-use buttons and simple interior. It looks wonderful with satin finish side step, rear spoiler, and wide side moldings. There are a couple of glitches to be fixed such as faulty tire pressure light (TPMS) and low clicking sound from the break pedal.

  • Roaring noise from exhaust at 2k rpms - 2004 Acura MDX
    By -

My 2004 MDX makes a low-pitched annoying roaring noise at about 2000 rpms from the exhaust. I took my car to the dealer, and this is what the mechanic wrote: "I test drove the car and could hear the roaring noise at 2Krpm. I swapped exhaust from a new MDX and it still made the same noise. I swapped the air box assembly and it still made the same noise. I test drove another 04 MDX and it makes the same noise" The service manager told me that this is "a characteristic of the vehicle," that nothing can be done about it at this time, and only if Acura gets enough complaints, it may look at the problem, and find a fix.

We took this vehicle from Coatesville, PA to Portland Maine right out of the box. It performed perfectly. The Nav. system came in real handy when our sons flight was cancelled and we went from Portland ME to Boston to pick him up.$41500 including 6% PA. sales tax. Not cheap but worth it. You sit higher than the mini van but the ride is stiffer.
