Love my volvo, i get great compliments on the looks at the same time i packed it to the rim and used it to move into my new home. It comfortable and fun, from dressing up for a nice dinner to heading out to the beach with your surfboard on the roof rack, I LOVE IT!!

I picked up the car in early November and love it, for the most part. It has plenty of pep, plus styling, safety, and space for the family. It is a great overall package that is really unmatched in its segment. unfortunately, my car is back at dealership for the second time in the first month with an electrical issue. Its electrical system periodically just goes completely dead. When it does restart (so far, it has), lots of service warning messages appear on the otherwise great message center. My dealer cant find the problem. I am starting to research lemon law protections.

This is our first Volvo... we are very happy ! This has been one the best car makers that we have dealt with. We attended two different "pre-sale" Volvo events and the Volvo Owners half-day drive event at Laguna Seca racetrack in CA. This car is so much fun to drive and the safety features are great. I have read here that some have had problems with the "turbo lag"... I took ours in to the dealer and they re- programed something and it is much better now, more peppy. However, that has made the gas mileage go south a bit... I guess you cant have it all ??? It is still better than our old Suburban was. We would like to check out the V8 engine and maybe trade up at a later date.

The xc90 is not comfortable for a family. The kids complain nonstop on rides longer than 30 min. No place to put anything in the cramped cockpit. I found out my AWD was not working when I needed it the most, so my sons had to help push me out of a ditch. I have had to get new tires with only 10,000 mi! I have had problems with radio, shocks, ball bearings and transmission linkage. There have been lots of small things that are annoying like little parts falling off here and there.

  • Not impressed - - 2005 Volvo XC90

i bought this used with about 33,000 miles on it. It was in the shop about a week after i bought it with many minor problems. Ive gone thru tires, ball joints, tie rods, seat heaters, and it goes one. The dash is the exact same dash that is in my wifes Ford Windstar mini van. I the transmission went and i had to wait 4 weeks for a new or rebuilt transmission. The local dealer would not give out a loaner car and is not the best to deal with. I have this car up forsale and i will NEVER by a Volvo again - the loaner i did get for other service repairs were not impressive. I think Volvo will be like Saab before long since Ford is not getting any buyers for Volvo. Wish i bought saab9-7

I traded my 2000 XC70 with nearly 200K miles for this 2005 2.5T AWD XC90 and love it. The ride isnt quite as nice but my XC70 wouldnt tow my ski boat while this vehicle has no problems with it. Ive put nearly 15K miles on it since I bought it in 7/07. The mileage also isnt as good as the XC70 (26mpg hwy v 22 mpg) but I can live with it. So far my only complaint is the radio: the digital readout screen failed. The radio still works fine yet Volvo says that the only way to fix it is to replace the entire radio. I understand the problem is fairly common with this model and Volvo ought to develop a recall option. Overall great safe car!!

  • Vail Pass at 85 MPH, W/ Nelly thumping!! - 2005 Volvo XC90

OK, I have no kids yet I have a soccer mom car. I had an Infinity QX-4 and it was great, but I was in for a change and a car from Japan was not going to be it, ergo the VOLVO XC90 w T6 and Premium sound. I live in Vail and blast back and forth from Vail to Denver a lot. 2 passes, windy roads, lots of snow and ice and I couldnt be happier. The manual option for the trans is key to making it up the passes fast, I am never passed (unless it is icy and some tourist with a cowboy hat on in his rented SUV thinks he has crampons for tires) The stereo is awesome and the creature comforts are all there. My wife has the Cross Country and both are outstanding. Sorry to all those who hate theirs!

  • Good Family Car - 2005 Volvo XC90
    By -

The car has served my family well since we bought it new. We avoided the T6 after reading the transmission horror stories. Engine is sufficient for most situations, but lacks power for highway passing. It drives and handles like a car. Gas mileage is average (16/22 mpg). Good looks outside and a very functional interior. Good cargo space with 3rd row folded down. 3rd row isnt useful and cuts 2nd row leg room. Seats are very comfortable for long trips. Dealer maintenance isnt cheap after the first 3 years which were free. Had a couple of unexpected repairs after warranty ($1,200 total). Not as reliable as a Honda, but not as bad as a BMW/MB. Id consider buying the next generation XC90.

  • XC90 Transmission Nightmares - 2005 Volvo XC90

My 05 T6 XC90 has already had three transmissions replaced. Lucky for me its all under warranty but based on the frequency of the problem Im afraid that the new transmission will fail after my warranty has expired. Looks like the only solution for my problem, since I cannot use the lemon law, will be to get rid of this thing as soon as I get it back. The dealer has had it now for two weeks. They cant figure out why the new transmission went out after only one week!

  • XC90 V8 First Trip Review - 2005 Volvo XC90
    By -

We have put the first 900 miles on our XC90 V8. On our longest trip was going from Sacramento, thru Clear Lake and then up to the North Coast on Hwy 101 to near Crecent City, we averaged 20.4 mpg. That is driving thru the mountains, passing other vehicles (motorhomes and trucks with trailers). The speeds ranged from 70 on the Hwy, and between 35 and 50 thru the various towns, up and down hills and mountains. The vehicle handled like a dream, took turns in the mountains extremely well and never felt like it couldnt handle everthing we threw at it. We even took it off paved road, on a dirty, dusty dirt road, that leads to the coast, and even crossed 3 small streams. This vehicle is awesome!
