xc90 - 2005 Volvo XC90
By AWD - November 1 - 3:50 pmVery attractive vehicle. Ergonomics could be better. Its hard to turn a corner without changing the radio station as the secondary controls are on the steering wheel. Right side control stalk handles too many functions making inadvertant switching on and of of, say, the rear wiper a nuisance. Front passanger seat back control a joke.

Good SUV - 2005 Volvo XC90
By dabelko - October 31 - 1:46 pmA nice luxury SUV with three rows of seats, yet not too large. Mileage with 5 cylinder mirrors the EPA ratings (18- 24) much to my surprise. Visibility could be a little better. Seats have good support. Handling is pretty good for a SUV. Unfortunately they have begun to raise price.

absolute letdown - 2005 Volvo XC90
By rayray - October 24 - 7:36 amMisery! Volvo forgot reliability is part of "safety." Where do I start with the 2005 V8 AWD "top of the line" for that year. First big problem: AC put out only HOT. Then the shifter/key start up had problems. Yearly, windows always need calibration as they would roll down by themselves. Then an ABS control failed and I could not start the car. After the pitiful 4yr/50k warranty ran out (car paid in full of course) the transmission failed after 70,000 miles, cost $6500 to fix, then there was the engine leak that after 4 months of diagnosing turned out to be a leaky engine BLOCK, so I needed a new engine after 80,000 miles. Dont get me started on the electrical system. Worse vehicle ever!

Transmission and AWD Problems - 2005 Volvo XC90
By tracyt302 - September 29 - 3:56 amBought new and replaced rear wheel bearings at about 50K miles replaced transmission and angle gear (AWD) at 94K. No assistance from Volvo. Very poor design flaw. Will not buy another Volvo. Replaced steering rack and power steering unit and another rear wheel bearing.

mysterious noises, radio changes station - 2005 Volvo XC90
By david carter - August 31 - 5:46 pmFor $51K one would think that vibrational noises would be non existent. On wash board dirt roads or hitting a bump in the road just right there is a harsh rattle/thumping sound coming from the left suspension. This can be felt in the steering column. There is a disturbing wind noise from the right quarter panel area at 60 mi or above. There is a strange click sound from the tail gate that happens every few minutes, this even occurs when the car is still. Most frustrating is the radio and cd player change stations or tracks on its own. The car has 2000 mi on it,has been in the shop off and on for over a mo.and problems persists. Spoke to the owner today, not even an apology. Very disappointed

How Swede it is - 2005 Volvo XC90
By SoCalVolvoowner - August 24 - 10:00 amIn car-crazy Southern California, this stands out from all the rest. Color (a green metallic that I did not think Id like and actually love) wheels, and overall style all catch the eye of my freeway companions. Its pretty zippy, although for really fast get-up-and-go I wish Id sprung for the T6, but I dont eat as much gas in the T5 and its quick enough for most of my driving.

Major Disappointment - 2005 Volvo XC90
By Jim Barnacle - July 26 - 8:50 amMy 2.5 Turbo moans and groans it way around town delivering me 15 miles to the gallon. The SUV is particularly annoying to drive in traffic because the car hesitates off the line (turbo lag Im told). The vibration of the turbo reminds me of a diesel. When I exit the car the vibration stays with me. This is a sad excuse for a premium SUV. I actually enjoyed my 2002 Ford Explorer more than this overrated piece of junk. I feel betrayed by the automotive press for their positive reviews. M

Love It!! - 2005 Volvo XC90
By t_hokies - June 19 - 8:56 pmI laughed at my husband when we bought our first Volvo 3 years ago because we are both country people and this just didnt fit in with the Fords and Dodges the we had prevously owned but now we wont buy anything else. We just recently bought the XC90 and so many of the features sold this SUV to us even after looking at several others on the market. The reliability along with the luxury is hard to find anywhere else. We see ourselves taking a Volvo with us wherever we move. The power behind it is so much better then what I could expect, handles wonderfully on an almost vertical rise.
